First TTC Tunnel Boring Machine Lowered to Sheppard Subway Shaft

Attention News Editors:

First TTC Tunnel Boring Machine Lowered to Sheppard Subway Shaft

TORONTO, Aug. 22 /CNW/ - Traffic on Sheppard Avenue, between Leslie
Street and Provost Drive (on the east side of the Canadian Tire store), will
be restricted to two lanes, one in each direction, Saturday morning, as the
first of the Sheppard Subway twin tunnel boring machines is lowered into the
ground.
When re-assembled on the floor of the shaft, the machines will begin
tunnelling, in about a month's time, along Sheppard towards Yonge Street, for
the Sheppard Subway line.
The crane that will lift the three sections of the first machine into the
shaft, will be located on Sheppard Avenue on Saturday.
Access to Ikea Store by Provost Drive may be interrupted briefly but
police officers will be on hand to assist with traffic movement. The best
approach to both the Ikea and Canadian Tire stores, on Saturday morning, is
along Sheppard from the west.
