Highway 7 West rapidway - Concord / Thornhill:
Final paving at Centre / Dufferin, September 6

VivaNext - Thornhill - header.jpg

Metrolinx and York Region contractors continue building a rapidway — bus-only lanes in the centre of the roadway — along Highway 7 West, Centre and Bathurst Streets between Dufferin and Yonge Streets.

From 7 p.m. Friday, September 6 until 7 a.m. Saturday, September 7 and continuing overnight nightly, crews are paving

  • the intersection of Centre Street with Dufferin Street.

Tonight (September 6), crews are paving the centre lanes of the intersection. To accommodate this work, east- and westbound through traffic can flow, but with no left turns. North- and southbound traffic can only turn right — with no through traffic.

Then, crews pave the north half of the intersection. The work zone blocks the north side of the intersection to traffic. Finally, as crews pave the south half of the intersection, the work sone blocks the south side to traffic.

“Paid-duty” York Regional Police officers will be on-site during this phase of the project to control traffic.

York Region Transit is detouring buses along this route, while the intersection is closed:

  • 105 Dufferin.

Overnight paving at Dufferin / Centre and the resulting YRT detour continue until 7 a.m. September 11.

105 Dufferin

From 7 p.m. Friday, September 6 until 7 a.m. Saturday, September 7 and continuing overnight nightly until 7 a.m. Wednesday, September 11, **southbound buses operate along their regular route to Dufferin Street and Langstaff Road West, then detour:

eastward along Langstaff and Highway 7;
north- and westward along the Highway 7 - Bathurst connector road;
southward along Bathurst Street;
westward along Clark Boulevard West to Dufferin,
resuming their regular route southward along Dufferin.

Southbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Dufferin Street at Langstaff Road West, across from Caraway Drive, Racco Parkway and Beverley Glen Boulevard, at Centre Street, south of Glen Shields Drive [north] and north of Clark Boulevard West.

Instead, southbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at temporary stops

  • on Clark Boulevard West at South Promenade, beside Promenade Park, at New Westminster Drive, west of New Westminster Drive, at Judith Avenue and Brownridge Drive, across from Vaughan Secondary School and at Dufferin Street.
