The TTC is closing part of the Line 1 Yonge - University subway between St Clair and Union stations Sunday, June 9. Line 1 subway trains operate only between Finch and St Clair stations and Vaughan Metropolitan Centre and Union stations that day. TTC crews are upgrading the signals on the closed section of the line.

Shuttle buses replace the trains. The buses stop on the street near all stations on the closed portion of the line.

Most stations remain open so that you can buy fares or connect with buses and streetcars. However, Summerhill and Wellesley Stations are closed.

Wheel-Trans accessible service is available. Ask any TTC employee about Wheel-Trans service.

Closing this portion of the subway network allows TTC crews to continue upgrading the automatic train-control (or ATC) signal system. According to a TTC news release, “When ATC is fully installed on Line 1, it will provide a more modern and reliable signal system that will help the TTC improve capacity by allowing for increased trips on the line.”

This is the twelfth time this year that the TTC has closed part of this section of Line 1 for maintenance:

The TTC has planned at least two more closures of all or part of this section of Line 1 this year:

  • Monday, June 17 until Wednesday, June 19 — close early — Eglinton to Bloor — track maintenance.
  • Monday, June 24 until Thursday, June 27 — close early — Eglinton to Bloor — track maintenance.
