Metrolinx and York Region contractors continue the project to build a rapidway — bus-only lanes in the centre of the roadway — along Yonge Street in Richmond Hill between 19th Avenue / Gamble Road and Highway 7.

Crews continue to make progress building the vivastations on Yonge Street in Richmond Hill. Starting 7 a.m. Thursday, May 23, they start installing caissons [the structural support for a type of foundation wall] at two vivastations on Yonge:

  • the southbound Canyon Hill vivastation; and
  • the northbound Elgin Mills vivastation.

To install the caissons at the southbound Canyon Hill vivastation, crews are working on the west side of Yonge. To install the caissons at the northbound Elgin Mills vivastation, crews will be working on the east side of Yonge. Work zones may temporarily restrict traffic to just one southbound or one northbound lane.

York Region Transit may temporarily relocate bus stops near the work zones. Passengers aboard buses along these routes can expect delays near Canyon Hill:

  • Viva blue;
  • Viva blue “A”;
  • 81 Inspiration;
  • 86 Newkirk - Red Maple;
  • 98E Yonge express;
  • 99 Yonge; and
  • 589 / 590 Richmond Hill community bus.
