Burlington Transit raising fares, May 1

Starting Wednesday, May 1, Burlington Transit is raising fares for users of PRESTO farecards and tickets. The cash fare remains at $3.50.

PRESTO users from all categories pay an extra five cents starting Wednesday. The new fare for adult passengers is $2.75. For children, youth and seniors, the fare is $1.90.

Burlington Transit will no longer sell tickets after Saturday, August 31. It will no longer accept tickets as valid fare after Tuesday, December 31. In the meantime, you’ll need fifty cents more to buy 10 tickets for children, starting May 1. The cost is now $19.

Monthly PRESTO passes are more expensive, too. For children, the new price for a pass is $40. For youth, the price is $75. Adults can expect to pay $100, while seniors pay $61. Post secondary students pay $30 for a U-Pass Add-on. The U-Pass Add-On lets McMaster University and Mohawk College students with a current student identification and a transit endorsement (U-Pass) enjoy unlimited travel each month aboard Burlington Transit buses.

Also starting May 1, passengers using the Region of Halton’s SPLIT (Subsidized passes for low-income transit) program) program receive a free PRESTO monthly pass.

Starting Monday, June 3, seniors ride free of fare Mondays to Fridays from 9 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.

Preschool children, five years of age or younger, can ride Burlington Transit free of fare when a parent or guardian accompanies them.

Child fares apply to passengers ages 6 to 12 years.

Youth fares apply to passengers ages 13 to 20 years.

Adult fares apply to passengers ages 21 to 65 years.

Senior fares apply to passengers 65 years or older.
