Metrolinx contractors continue building the future Eglinton Crosstown light rail transit line between Mount Dennis and Kennedy.

Starting 5 a.m. Monday, April 15, crews continue building the LRT “guideway” — the transit-only lanes in the centre of the roadway, including tracks and passenger amenities

  • at the intersection of Eglinton Avenue East with Sloane Avenue / Bermondsey Road

near the site of the future Sloane stop.

They’re starting the next phase of construction — widening and repaving the roadway — to accommodate the guideway. They’ll block north-south traffic on Bermondsey and Sloane from continuing through the intersection for as long as twelve weeks. They started reconfiguring traffic lanes on Eglinton Avenue East for the first phase of this work, Monday, April 8.

During phase 1, they’ll widen and repave on the south side of the intersection. During phase 2, they’ll work on the north side of the intersection. During both phases, the TTC is detouring buses along this route:

Phase 1 of guideway construction near the future Sloane stop — and the resulting TTC detour — continue until about May 26.

For transit passengers

  • From Monday, April 15 until about Sunday, May 26, the TTC is detouring buses along the 91 Woodine route.
  • The TTC is setting up a temporary platform for the eastbound stop on Eglinton East at Bermondsey. Walkways lead passengers across the work zone to and from the sidewalk on the south side of Eglinton or the north-south crosswalk on the west side of the Bermondsey / Sloane intersection.
  • It’s relocating the northbound stop on Sloane at Eglinton East to Eccleston Drive.
  • It’s relocating the south- and northbound stops on Bermondsey south of Eglinton East to south of Mobile Drive.
  • Expect delays aboard buses along these routes:
  • 34 Eglinton East; and
  • 334 Eglinton East overnight.

For pedestrians

  • From Monday, April 15 until about Sunday, May 26, the north-south crosswalk on the east side Bermondsey and Sloane at Eglinton East is closed.

For motorists

  • Work zones block traffic lanes on the south side of Eglinton Avenue East east and west of Bermondsey Road.
  • A work zone extends across Bermondsey Road, blocking north-south through traffic.
  • At least two lanes in each direction are available for traffic on Eglinton East. Traffic flows on the north side of the roadway.
  • All traffic lanes are available on Bermondsey and Sloane.
  • Northbound traffic on Bermondsey must turn around southbound south of Eglinton.
  • Southbound traffic on Sloane must turn left or right onto Eglinton.
  • The City of Toronto is prohibiting all turns from eastbound Eglinton onto Sloane or Bermondsey.
  • The City is prohibiting left turns from westbound Eglinton onto southbound Bermondsey.
  • It’s also prohibiting left turns from eastbound Mobile onto northbound Bermondsey.
