GO revises services, April 6

GO Transit is expanding service to better serve passengers in the Greater Golden Horseshoe, starting Saturday, April 6.

The regional transit agency says it’s improving service by:

  • introducing five midday trips in each direction along the Stouffville line, serving passengers at Mount Joy, Centennial and Markham GO stations from Monday to Friday;
  • adding new rush-hour train from Bramalea GO Station at 7:55 a.m., dropping off or picking up passengers all stops before arriving at Union Station at 8:33 a.m; and
  • extending the 8:33 a.m. trip from Malton GO to start at Bramalea GO at 8:27 a.m., arriving at Union Station at 9:05.

GO is also increasing the size of some trains to give passengers a more comfortable commute:

  • the 8.33 a.m. train from Malton GO (now beginning at Bramalea at 8:27 a.m.), will increase from six to 10 coaches;
  • the 7:36 a.m. train from Pickering GO to Union Station will increase from 10 to 12 coaches.
  • the 6.55 a.m. train from Union Station to Pickering GO will increase from 10 to 12 coaches.
  • the 8.28 a.m. train from Union Station to Mimico GO will increase from 10 to 12 coaches.

With the end of the winter academic term, GO is also decreasing service along bus routes to and from colleges and universities.

Increasing service along lines and routes

33 Guelph / Georgetown / North York

33A and 33E branches

Starting Monday, April 8, the eastbound bus that usually leaves Downtown Brampton Terminal at 5:30 a.m. Mondays to Fridays, leaves, instead, Georgetown GO Station at 4:55 a.m. It drops off or picks up passengers at all stops along the route, arriving in Brampton at its usual time of 5:30 a.m. The bus then operates with its usual schedule, ending its trip in Union Station GO Bus Terminal at 6:15 a.m.

By making this change, GO operates the bus along the 33E branch of the route, instead of the 33A branch. The bus also replaces the eastbound bus from that usually leaves Main Street north of George Street in Georgetown at 5:39 a.m. GO is cancelling this bus that usually operates along the 31 Guelph / Georgetown / Toronto route.

You can view the new schedules for the route here (.pdf).

31 Guelph / Georgetown / Toronto buses

31F branch

Starting Monday, April 8, GO operates buses on new westbound trips along the branch Monday-to-Friday evenings. The buses leave Union Station GO Bus Terminal at 8:10 and 9:10 p.m. They drop off or pick up passengers at all stops along the route until Georgetown GO Station, ending their trips in the station bus terminal at 9:30 and 10:30 p.m.

31N branch

Starting Monday, April 8, GO operates a bus on a new eastbound trip along the branch early Monday-to-Friday mornings. The bus starts its trip in Bramalea GO Station bus terminal at 5:10 a.m. and arrives in Malton GO Station bus terminal at 5:20 a.m. It then operates express — without stopping - to Union Terminal. It ends its trip in Union terminal at 5:50 a.m.

Starting Monday, April 8, GO also operates a bus on a new westbound trip along the branch Monday-to-Friday evenings. The bus leaves Union Terminal at 8:20 a.m., then operates express to Malton GO Station, arriving at 8:45. It ends its trip in Bramalea GO Station bus terminal at 9:13 p.m.

GO is also decreasing service along the route and adjusting the schedules for buses along the route.

31 Kitchener trains

GO is introducing more eastbound service from Bramalea GO Station Monday-to-Friday mornings.

Starting Monday, April 8, a new train leaves Bramalea at 7:55 a.m. It drops off or picks up passengers at all stations along the line and ends its trip in Union Station at 8:33 a.m. This train is just six coaches long, so, GO says, “you may need to adjust where you wait on the platform to board the train.”

The train that usually starts its trip in Malton GO Station at 8:33 a.m. starts, instead, in Bramalea at 8:27 a.m. It serves passengers at all stations along the line at the usual time. It ends its trip in Union at 9:05 a.m. GO is also increasing the number of coaches from six to 10.

Note that these trains leave from a temporary platform on the south side of Bramalea GO Station. The south-side platform has no elevator access to the north side of the station. If you need to use an elevator, don’t board these trains.

All other morning trains leave Bramalea from the regular platform, which has elevator access to the station building, north parking lot and bus loop.

Similarly, remember to board the westbound train that leaves Union at 4:32 p.m. for Bramalea, if you need accessible and direct access to the south lot. This is the only westbound train that arrives at the temporary platform. If you require elevator access to the north side of the station, don’t board this train.

Door restrictions at Bramalea continue due to ongoing platform construction. Listen to announcements while aboard your train for directions on where to exit.

GO is also adjusting the schedules for trains along the line.

71 Stouffville trains

GO’s extending Monday-to-Friday midday train service to all stations in the City of Markham to offer “more passengers a more seamless ride all the way to and from Union Station”. Midday trains now drop off or pick up passengers in Mount Joy, Centennial and Markham GOstations.

Starting Monday, April 8, the southbound trains that usually start their trips in Unionville GO Station at 11:46 a.m. and 12:46, 1:46, 2:46 and 3:46 p.m. start, instead, in Mount Joy GO Station at 11:31 a.m. and 12:31, 1:31, 2:31 and 3:31 p.m. The trains arrive in Markham GO Station at 36 minutes past the hour, in Centennial GO Station at 41 minutes past and continue to serve passengers in Unionville at 46 minutes past the hour. The trains end their trips in Union Station at 12:27, 1:27, 2:27, 3:27 and 4:27 p.m.

GO is also extending northbound trains to Mount Joy Monday-to-Friday midday. The trains that leave Union Station at 10:15 and 11:15 a.m. and 12:15, 1:15 and 2:15 p.m. continue to Mount Joy, instead of ending their trips in Unionville at 10:54 and 11:54 a.m. and 12:54, 1:54 and 2:54 p.m. They arrive in Centennial at 59 minutes past the hour and in Markham at four minutes past. They end their trips in Mount Joy at 11:08 a.m. and 12:08, 1:08, 2:08 and 3:08 p.m.

Although trains replace Monday-to-Friday midday bus service between Mount Joy and Unionville, buses continue to operate between Uxbridge and Mount Joy so passengers can still connect with the trains. Accordingly, GO is also adjusting the schedules for connecting buses along the 70 Uxbridge / Stouffville / Markham route.

GO also continues to operate buses, instead of trains after about 9 p.m. Mondays to Fridays due to ongoing “infrastructure upgrades” on the line.
