Highway 7 West rapidway - Concord / Thornhill:
Taiga Drive vivastation; paving

Metrolinx and York Region contractors continue building a rapidway — bus-only lanes in the centre of the roadway — along Highway 7 West, Centre and Bathurst Streets between Dufferin and Yonge Streets.

Crews are delivering and installing the steel canopies at the future Taiga Drive vivastation platform on Centre Street this week. Crews are also paving Highway 7 between Bathurst and Yonge Streets.

From 7:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Friday, October 12, crews are installing the eastbound canopy for the Taiga vivastation (east of Carl Tennen Street / Vaughan Boulevard). From 7:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Thursday, October 19, they’re installing the westbound canopy.

As they deliver and install the steel structures, traffic-control staff and “paid-duty” York Regional Police officers need to stop traffic momentarily as cranes hoist the structures up. Crews may also set up temporary work zones, blocking traffic lanes beside each platform each day as they work.

York Region Transit may temporarily relocate bus stops. Passengers aboard buses along these routes can also expect delays:

  • Viva orange; and
  • 77 Highway 7.

From 7 p.m. Thursday, October 11 until 7 a.m. Friday, October 12, from 7 p.m. Friday until 7 a.m. Saturday, October 13 and again from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. Sunday, October 14, crews are paving

  • Highway 7 West between Bathurst and Yonge Streets.

Crews will set up temporary work zones on each side of the road, one at a time, restricting traffic to the opposite side.

They’ll pave the top coat of black asphalt on the eastbound lanes of the highway overnight Thursday / Friday, restricting both lanes of traffic to the north side of the highway. They’ll pave the top coat on the westbound lanes overnight Friday / Saturday, restricting both lanes of traffic to the south side. They’ll return Sunday to finalize the top coat of black asphalt on both sides of the highway.

York Region Transit passengers aboard buses along these routes can expect delays:

  • Viva orange;
  • 23 Thornhill Woods; and
  • 87 Autumn Hill.

Crews return next week to pave red asphalt on the rapidway.
