Yonge Street rapidway - Newmarket:
Plaza entrances closed, starting September 14

Metrolinx and York Region contractors continue the project to build a rapidway — bus-only lanes in the centre of the roadway — along Yonge Street in Newmarket between Davis Drive and Sawmill Valley Drive / Savage Road.

Over the next few months, crews are setting up several temporary work zones that block side streets on the east and west sides of

  • Yonge Street between Davis Drive and Sawmill Valley Drive / Savage Road.

While the work zones temporarily block access to the streets, crews are:

  • rebuilding the roadway;
  • installing storm sewers;
  • paving; and
  • painting new lines

to support the future rapidway.

From 3:30 p.m. Friday, September 14 until 7 a.m. Monday, September 17, the work zone is blocking the entrances to

  • Chapters / Pier 1 Imports / Starbucks [17440 Yonge];
  • Montana’s [17450 Yonge]; and
  • Newroads Subaru [17415 Yonge].

Detour signs will be in place to guide motorists and pedestrians around the work zone. Access to businesses and properties near the work areas remains open.

Expect noise and dust from equipment and trucks.

Traffic-control staff and “paid-duty” York Regional Police officers will be on-site to direct traffic during this work.
