Eglinton Crosstown LRT - Yonge:
Traffic and pedestrian changes, September 13

Metrolinx contractors continue building the future Eglinton Crosstown light rail transit line between Mount Dennis and Kennedy.

Crews are shoring — supporting upcoming excavation work — for the future Eglinton LRT Station. This work includes:

  • installing piles;
  • jet grouting; and
  • installing a temporary road deck.

The crews have finished shoring at the former TTC bus depot and along south side of Eglinton Avenue West. Starting “as early as” Thursday, September 13, crews set up a new work zone on the north side of Eglinton Avenue West, just west of Yonge Street.

Crews work every day from 7 a.m. until 11 p.m. They may also occasionally work overnight or weekends. Expect noise from a pile drill, crane, loaders, trucks and other construction equipment and dust when crews are drilling or removing debris. Heavy trucks will enter and exit the work zone and may travel along nearby streets.

During this phase of the project:

  • Work zones block traffic lanes on Yonge Street and Eglinton Avenues. At least one traffic lane in all directions will be available to motorists at all times.
  • Cowbell Lane remains closed at Eglinton Avenue East.
  • The City of Toronto has temporarily prohibited all turns at the intersection of Yonge with Eglinton.
  • The sidewalk on the south side of Eglinton West between Duplex Avenue and Yonge Street remains closed during this stage.
  • The east-west crosswalk on the south side of the intersection of Yonge with Eglinton remains open during this stage.
  • The east-west crosswalk on the north side of the intersection remains open about 20 metres north on Yonge.
  • The north-south crosswalk on the west side of the intersection reopens during this stage.
  • The north-south crosswalk on the east side of the intersection closes during this stage.
  • The south underground pedestrian tunnel connecting Eglinton (subway) Station to the southeast corner of the intersection remains open until further notice.
  • The east, west and north underground tunnels connecting the Eglinton (subway) Station to Riocan’s Yonge-Eglinton Centre remain closed until 2021.

LRT construction near Yonge Street and Eglinton Avenue continues to delay TTC buses along these routes:

  • 34 Eglinton East;
  • 51 Leslie;
  • 54 Lawrence East;
  • 56 Leaside;
  • 97 Yonge;
  • 320 Yonge overnight;
  • 334 Eglinton East overnight;
  • 354 Lawrence East overnight.

This phase of shoring near the future Eglinton LRT Station continues “for 3-4 months” or until January 11, 2019.
