Update — Monday, August 20, 11:31 a.m.: Construction continues until August 23.

Metrolinx contractors continue building the future Eglinton Crosstown light rail transit line between Mount Dennis and Kennedy.

Starting Monday, July 23, the City of Toronto closed

  • Chaplin Crescent at Eglinton Avenue West

to most through traffic, so that contractors could relocate “wet” utilities — water and wastewater mains, including storm and sanitary sewers — deep under the middle of the intersection. They completed about two weeks of work and temporarily reinstated the intersection to traffic.

Starting Saturday, August 11, crews again close the intersection to complete the remaining work. They work from 7 a.m. until 11 p.m. every day during each closure.

East - west traffic may travel along Eglinton West through the intersection. Except for emergency vehicles and TTC buses, north - south traffic on Chaplin cannot travel through the intersection. Southbound traffic on Chaplin will have no access to Eglinton West. Northbound traffic on Chaplin must turn at Eglinton.

While the intersection is closed, crews work in two phases, reconfiguring the work zone and blocking different parts of the roadways and intersection during each phase.

Phase 1 — Saturday, August 11 and Sunday, August 12

The work zone:

  • blocks Chaplin Crescent between Spadina Road and Eglinton Avenue West; and
  • reduces Eglinton Avenue West to just one shared lane only, with traffic alternating in each direction along the lane.

Crews remove part of the work zone so that at least one lane is available for traffic in each direction at 11 p.m. both nights.
