Line 3 Scarborough: TTC overnight maintenance
starts July 11

As part of the TTC’s rail maintenance and state-of-good-repair programs, crews are grinding the rail on a number of sections of Line 3 Scarborough, starting as early as Wednesday, July 11. Crews are deploying a slow-moving rail grinder overnight nightly to carry out this work. The unit moves slowly along the track, and is quieter when operating than what TTC has used in the past.

This maintenance will improve the condition of the rail surface, help reduce noise and vibration, extend the life of the rail and provide a smoother ride.

The grinder will operate shortly after Line 3 service ends and before it begins the next day — from about 2 until 6 a.m. nightly.

Although the grinder is quieter than older machines, expect some noise.

Overnight maintenance on Line 3 Scarborough continues “for about two months”, or until September 7.
