Hurontario LRT - Rathburn West:
Utility relocation, starting July 9

Update — Wednesday, August 1, 6:25 a.m.: Construction has finished ahead of schedule and buses have resumed operating into the City Centre Terminal today.

Metrolinx continues to prepare for upcoming construction on the Hurontario light rail transit line in Mississauga and Brampton.

Starting Monday, July 9, to accommodate the upcoming LRT construction, Alectra Utilities Corporation is installing new infrastructure on

  • Rathburn Road West between Station Gate Road and the east side of City Centre Drive.

This infrastructure is the main power artery for businesses on Rathburn West. Alectra must re-route it to make sure it can continue to reliably serve its customers in the area during as the LRT project proceeds.

During this project, Alectra contractors dig in the municipal right-of-way to install a concrete-encased ductbank, cable chambers and transformer foundations.

(Updated — Wednesday, August 1, 6:25 a.m.) Crews start working as early as Monday, July 9 at the intersection of Rathburn West with Hammerson Drive and continue there until July 13. Crews then move the work zone to the intersection of Rathburn West with Station Gate Road from July 16 until August 7. They’ll work as much as 24 hours a day and seven days a week until August 29 to accommodate this part of construction project near MiWay’s City Centre Terminal. MiWay is closing the terminal to buses from Monday, July 16 until Wednesday, August 8 1 to accommodate the work.

After the contractors finish near the terminal, they’ll reduce the work schedule, working only Mondays to Fridays from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m., with occasional weekend and overnight activity.

Expect noise from trucks, excavators, backhoes and other construction equipment.

During construction hours, work zones restrict traffic lanes:

  • on Rathburn Road West between Station Gate Road and east of City Centre Drive;
  • southbound on Station Gate Road between Rathburn Road West and Centre View Drive.
  • on Centre View Drive north of Rathburn Road West; and
  • on City Centre Drive south of Rathburn Road West.

One lane in each direction will be open to traffic at all times.
