Queen / Lansdowne, Queen / Brock construction:
TTC detours, April 6 to 9

Two upcoming construction projects temporarily affect TTC services on Queen Street West in the Parkdale neighbourhood from Friday, April 6 until Monday, April 9.

First, City of Toronto crews are repairing the sewers at the intersection with:

  • Lansdowne Avenue.

Second, TTC crews are repairing the streetcar tracks at the intersection with:

  • Brock Avenue.

The TTC is detouring buses and streetcars along these routes, while the crews work on the street:

  • 47 Lansdowne;
  • 301 Queen overnight; and
  • 501 Queen.

Shuttle buses replace streetcar service, operating between Sunnyside Loop and Shaw Street.

The City of Toronto is prohibiting on-street parking on Queen Street West near Brock Avenue to allow the crew to create a safe work zone, while they occupy the track area. The work zone restricts traffic to just one lane in each direction.

The crews work on the project in three steps:

  • Step 1: By 7 p.m. Friday, April 6, the crews set up the work zone. They chip the concrete from the track to expose the old rail. Another TTC team delivers new rails that the track crews will later install. They temporarily store the new rail in the track area.
  • Step 2: The crew removes the old rail and installs, welds and grinds new rail. They also place concrete in the track area.
  • Step 3: The new concrete cures, before the crew removes the work zone and regular traffic can resume by 5 a.m. Sunday, April.

The crews may visit the site before 7 p.m. April 6 to cut some of the concrete with a saw.
