TTC modifying track and carhouse
at Roncesvalles Yard, starting April 2

The TTC is building an addition to the carhouse and renewing the tracks at Roncesvalles Yard. The TTC says this extension and track work will give it more ability to carry out minor maintenance of its low-floor streetcar fleet so it can meet daily service requirements. It will also enable it to store the new streetcars at the yard. Heavy maintenance operations of the new cars will continue at Leslie Barns.

Crews mostly work in the north end of the yard and in the carhouse, where they’ll remove and re-instate tracks, overhead wires and poles. Removing concrete and tracks starts Monday, April 2.

During construction, few streetcars move through the carhouse property, except for minor maintenance issues. Since Sunday, February 18, the TTC has operated all streetcars from Leslie Barns or Russell Carhouse, instead of Roncesvalles.

Crews work Mondays to Fridays from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. and occasionally weekends. The track-installation phase of this project may include periods of late-evening and overnight work.

Construction in Roncesvalles Yard continues until spring 2020.
