TTC closing Spadina streetcar tunnel overnight
to maintain wiring and tracks, April 3 to 8



TTC crews are inspecting and undertaking regular maintenance of the overhead wiring and tracks in the Spadina Station streetcar tunnel overnight from Monday, April 3 until Thursday, April 6 and again Saturday, April 8.

From 1 until 5 a.m. from April 3 until April 6 and from 1 until 6 a.m. April 8, the TTC is detouring streetcars operating along these routes:

  • 317 Spadina overnight; and
  • 510 Spadina.

Shuttle buses replace the cars between Spadina Station and College Street.

Note that traffic on Adelaide Street West operates one-way eastbound only and traffic on Richmond West one-way westbound. The buses likely loop in the opposite direction than the map indicates.


Crews work only in the tunnel and will not generate noise to the community:

  • Monday, April 3 until Thursday, April 6 - they inspect and maintain overhead streetcar wiring.
  • Over two nights from Monday, April 3 until Thursday, April 6 - they thoroughly clean the track area.
  • Saturday, April 6 - they test and maintain the tunnel barrier doors.

From 1 until 5 a.m. from Monday, April 3 until Thursday, April 6 and from 1 until 6 a.m. Saturday, April 8, streetcars start and end their trips in Bathurst Station, instead of Spadina Station.

Southbound cars start their trips in Bathurst Station, then proceed:

southward along Bathurst; and then
eastward along College Street to Spadina Avenue,
resuming their regular route southward along Spadina.

Southbound cars skip their regular stops

  • in Spadina Station streetcar terminal,
  • on Spadina Avenue south of Sussex Avenue and Harbord Street and at Willcocks Street.

Instead, southbound cars drop off or pick up passengers at temporary stops

  • in Bathurst Station terminal,
  • on Bathurst Street at Lennox, Harbord, Ulster and College Streets and
  • on College Street at Borden Street and Augusta and Spadina Avenues.

Shuttle buses replace the cars, operating between Spadina Station and Adelaide Street West.

Northbound cars reverse the southbound detour routing.

Northbound cars skip their regular stops

  • on Spadina Avenue north of College Street, at Willcocks Street, north of Harbord Street and at Sussex Avenue and
  • in Spadina Station streetcar terminal.

Instead, northbound cars drop off or pick up passengers at temporary stops

  • on College Street at Major Street, across from Borden Street and at Bathurst Street,
  • on Bathurst Street at Ulster, Harbord and Lennox Streets and
  • in Bathurst Station terminal.

Shuttle buses replace the cars, operating between Richmond Street West and Spadina Station. Northbound streetcar passengers may transfer to northbound buses at stops on Spadina Avenue between Queen Street West and College Street.

From 1 until 5 a.m. from Monday, April 3 until Thursday, April 6 and from 1 until 6 a.m. Saturday, April 8, buses replace streetcar service between Spadina Station and College Street.

Southbound buses start their trips in Spadina Station bus terminal, then proceed:

southward along Spadina Road, Avenue, Crescent and Avenue; and then
eastward along Adelaide Street West to just east of Spadina,
ending their trips.

Southbound buses likely drop off or pick up passengers at stops beside the curb, instead of in the centre-road “island” streetcar stops

  • in Spadina Station bus terminal,
  • on Spadina Avenue south of Sussex Avenue and Harbord Street, at Willcocks Street, south of College and Nassau Streets and Dundas Street West, across from Sullivan Street and south of Queen Street West.

Southbound bus passengers may transfer to southbound streetcars at stops on Spadina Avenue between College Street and Queen Street West.

Northbound buses start their trips on Adelaide Street West east of Spadina Avenue, then proceed:

eastward along Adelaide Street West;
northward along Peter Street;
westward along Richmond Street West;
northward along Spadina Avenue, Crescent, Avenue and Road; and then
eastward into Spadina Station bus terminal,
ending their trips.

Northbound buses likely drop off or pick up passengers at stops beside the curb, instead of in the centre-road “island” streetcar stops

  • north of Queen Street West, Sullivan Street and Dundas Street West, across from Nassau Street, north of College Street, at Willcocks Street, north of Harbord Street and at Sussex Avenue and
