Davis Drive rapidway construction
continues, October 26, 27

Metrolinx and York Region contractors continue the project to build a rapidway — bus-only lanes in the centre of the roadway — along Davis Drive in Newmarket.

Crews are paving red asphalt at intersections on Davis between Patterson Street / Roxborough Road and Main Street.

Monday, October 26 from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m., crews are:

  • temporarily blocking access to Davis Drive close as crews pave the intersections with:
  • Main Street;
  • Entrance to Seniors’ Meeting Place / Newmarket Chamber of Commerce;
  • Lundy’s Lane / Prospect Street;
  • Entrance to Southlake Regional Health Centre;
  • Patterson Street / Roxborough Road;
  • narrowing the entrance to Tannery Mall as they pave the area, but still maintaining access. (They’ll paving in this location after 8:30 a.m. and before 4:30 p.m. so they don’t block passengers heading to and from trains at Newmarket GO Station.
  • maintaining two entrances to Southlake Regional Health Centre during paving.
  • staging paving to maintain west- and eastbound traffic along Davis.

York Region Transit is detouring buses operating along this route, during paving:

  • 54 Bayview.

Crews are installing new transit signals and long gate arms at the GO railway crossing on Davis, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday, October 26 and Tuesday, October 27.

Contractors have scheduled work so as not to interfere with GO Transit train service along the 65 Barrie line during rush hours.

Once crews have installed them, they’ll operate the arms and signals to test them. They’ll raise and lower the signal arms at regular intervals, even when no trains are approaching. Expect delays through this area during testing.

During all phases of Davis Drive rapidway construction, expect delays for GO Transit buses operating along this route:

  • 65 Newmarket / Toronto.

Also expect delays for York Region Transit buses operating along these routes:

  • 44 Bristol;
  • 50 Queensway;
  • 54 Bayview;
  • 55 / 55B Davis Drive;
  • 58 Mount Albert;
  • 223 Newmarket GO shuttle; and
  • 520 / 521 Newmarket community bus.
