The Pan Am Games take place in Toronto and the Greater Golden Horseshoe area from Friday July 10 until Sunday, July 26

Transit Toronto’s series of posts about special services that help you travel to and from the games and how the event also affect regular transit services starts with downtown Toronto.

Games events take place in several venues in central Toronto:

The TTC is reassigning the NovaBus LFS articulated (or “bendy”) buses that usually operate along this route Mondays to Fridays to provide extra service to and from various games venues. Since regular buses are smaller than the “artics”, it’s generally increasing the frequency of service those days during the games.

It’s also operating service earlier Sundays and increasing and decreasing the frequency of service those days during the games.

Sundays, July 12, July 19 and July 26

Service starts earlier, southbound Steeles Avenue West at 4:40 a.m. and northbound from Bathurst Station at 5:20 a.m. Buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops every 9 minutes before 9 a.m. Earlier service along the route replaces regular early Sunday morning service along the 310 Bathurst overnight route.

Buses serve stops:

  • every 8½ minutes, instead of every 9 minutes 40 seconds, from about 9 a.m. until noon;

To free up streetcars Monday-to-Friday midday for extra service to and from Exhibition Place, the TTC is replacing the cars with buses from about 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.

29 Dufferin

From 5 a.m. Monday, June 22 until Labour Day, Monday, September 7

Exhibition Place is closing most of its streets to through traffic to accommodate the events.

While the streets are closed, the TTC is canceling service along the 29C branch of the route through Exhibition Place to and from Princes’ Gate Loop. All buses at all times of the week start and end their trips in Dufferin Gate Loop.

Southbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Saskatchewan Road east of Dufferin Street,
  • on Manitoba Drive east of Saskatchewan Road, at Nova Scotia Avenue and across from Exhibition Loop and
  • in Princes’ Gate Loop.

Northbound buses skip their regular stops

  • in Princes’ Gate Loop,
  • on Princes’ Boulevard beside the Direct Energy Centre,
  • on Nunavut Road north of Princes’ Boulevard,
  • on Manitoba Drive across from Nova Scotia Avenue and
  • on Saskatchewan Road west of Manitoba Drive and at Dufferin Street.

Saturday, July 11 until Sunday, July 26

The TTC operates more frequent service at many times of the week. It also operates a temporary 29G branch of the route, with short-turning buses starting and ending their trips at Dufferin Station. Buses serving the 29G branch of the route operate every 10 minutes at all times of the week, except overnight.

In combination with service along other branches of the route, the TTC offers much more frequent service to passengers at stops between Dufferin Station and Dufferin Loop.

The TTC is temporarily canceling 510 Spadina service along Queens Quay West to and from Union Station during the games. Instead, more streetcars operate along the 509 Harbourfront route to serve passengers at stops in Union Station and on Queens Quay West and provide extra service to and from Exhibition Place.

At all times of the week some cars short-turn to start or end their trips at Spadina Avenue and King Street West, while others operate further southward along Lower Spadina Avenue to start or end their trips in Spadina / Queens Quay Loop.

This results in more or less frequent service along different parts of the route at various times of the week.

Saturdays, July 11, July 18 and July 25

  • every 7 minutes, instead of every 7 minutes 15 seconds, before about 8 a.m.;
