Highway 7 East rapidway construction:
Paving, November 25 to 28



Update — Friday, November 28, 8:44 p.m.: Metrolinx and York Region have rescheduled this work to take place from Sunday, November 30 until Wednesday, December 2.

Metrolinx and York Region contractors continue to work on the project to build a rapidway — bus-only lanes in the centre of the roadway.


From 7 p.m. Tuesday, November 25 until Thursday, November 27, contractors will be paving Town Centre Boulevard between Cox Boulevard and Highway 7. Expect noise.

After 7 p.m. Tuesday, crews will prepare the area for paving. After 9 a.m. Wednesday, November 26 and Thursday, November 27, crews will grade and pave this section of the roadway.

The street will be open from 7 a.m. until 9 a.m. for morning rush-hour traffic. No work will take place overnight.

Cox Boulevard will remain open.

You can access Markham Civic Centre, Unionville High School and Flato Markham Theatre will from Apple Creek Road and turn south onto Town Centre Boulevard.

“Paid-duty” York Regional Police officers will be directing traffic where work is underway at the intersections of Highway 7 with Town Centre Boulevard / South Town Centre Boulevard and Town Centre Boulevard with Cox Boulevard.

York Region Transit is detouring buses operating along the 40 Unionville local and 302 Unionville express routes, November 26 and 27.

Thursday, November 27 and Friday, November 28, crews will pave the west side of South Town Centre Boulevard between Highway 7 and Clegg Road. North- and southbound traffic will continue to travel along South Town Centre Boulevard.

“Paid-duty” York Regional Police officers will be directing traffic while work is underway at the intersections of Highway 7 with Town Centre Boulevard / South Town Centre Boulevard and South Town Centre Boulevard with Clegg Road.


During Highway 7 rapidway construction, expect delays for:

  • TTC buses operating along the 24 Victoria Park, 68 Warden and 224 Victoria Park North routes; and
  • YRT buses operating along the Viva green, Viva pink, Viva purple, 1 Highway 7, 224B Woodbine, 300 Business express and 302 Unionville express routes.

YRT continues to detour buses operating along the Viva blue, Viva pink, 300 Business express and 302 Unionville express routes, while Cedarland Drive and parts of South Town Centre Boulevard are closed.

Wednesday, November 26 and Thursday, November 27 mornings, westbound buses start their trips on Town Centre Boulevard across from Cox Boulevard (instead of on Town Centre north of Highway 7), then proceed along their regular route northward along Town Centre.

Afternoons, eastbound buses operate along their regular route to South Town Centre Boulevard and Highway 7, then detour:

westward along Highway 7;
northward along Rodick Road; and then
eastward along Cox Boulevard to Town Centre Boulevard,
resuming their regular route northward along Town Centre.

Wednesday, November 26 and Thursday, November 27, eastbound buses operate along their regular route to Town Centre Boulevard and Cox Boulevard, then detour:

westward along Cox;
southward along Rodick Road; and then
eastward along Highway 7 to Town Centre Boulevard / South Town Centre Boulevard,
resuming their regular route eastward along Highway 7.

Eastbound buses skip their regular stop

  • on Town Centre Boulevard across from Cox Boulevard.

Instead, eastbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at temporary stops

  • on Highway 7 at Rodick Road.

Westbound buses reverse the eastbound detour routing.
