St. Catharines Transit Commission raises fares, April 2



The St. Catharines Transit Commission is raising fares, starting Monday, April 2.

The cash fare for adult, secondary-school student and senior passengers increases by 25 cents — from $2.50 to $2.75 — that day. For elementary-school passengers, the costs also jumps 25 cents — from $2 to $2.25.

The cost to buy 10-ride fare cards also goes up in all passenger categories. For adults, the cost rises from $23.50 to $26, for elementary- and secondary-school students from $20 to $22.50 and for seniors from $17.50 to $20.

The SCTC is also increasing the price for passes. Weekend “One-Day, All-Day” family passes will cost you $7, instead of $6. Adult monthly passes will cost $90, instead of $80. Secondary student montly passes cost $60, instead of $50. Senior passes cost $55, instead of $50.

The cost for four-month “semester passes” for post-secondary-school students remains at $290.

The SCTC is raising the age limit for children, who can ride the bus free of fare. Starting Monday, children five years of age or younger can ride free, instead of those four and younger.

In St. Catharines, “senior” passengers are 65 years of age or older. “Students” range in age from 6 to 20. “Adults” are passengers 21 to 64 years of age.
