You'll pay more to ride the bus in Mississauga,
starting January 30

Starting Monday, January 30, MiWay is increasing some of its fares, although it continues to discount fares for students and children.

MiWay is freezing the fares for students and children at 2009 prices. The cash fare for all passengers, however, increases by 25 cents to $3.25. (MiWay last increased the cash fares in 2009). Adult passengers will have to pay another ten cents each to buy tickets, while seniors pay another five cents per ticket. You’ll pay $1 more to buy an adult weekly pass and $4 more to buy an adult monthly pass. If you’re a senior, weekly passes go up by $3 a month, while annual passes increase by $30 a year.

“The new fares help maintain a balance between providing affordable fare options for customers while considering cost recovery for taxpayers,” said Geoff Marinoff, Mississauga’s Director of Transit. “In this year’s budget, cost pressures included increases in labour, diesel fuel, hydro rates and a reduction in transfers from reserve funds,” he said.

MiWay will apply the new fares to all February weekly and monthly passes that passengers may buy purchased before January 30.

(For fare purposes, MiWay categorizes passengers in Grade 1 to 8 classes as “children”, passengers attending classes in grades 9 to 12 or a university, college or another post-secondary institution as “students” and passengers 65 years of age or older as “seniors”. For all other passengers, it charges the “adult” fare.)
