Milton Transit raises fares, January 1

Milton Transit is joining the parade of local transit agencies raising fares, starting New Year’s Day, Sunday, January 1, 2012.

(The others are the TTC, Oakville Transit and York Region Transit.)

Milton Transit’s raising the cost of cash fares and passes: the price to buy bulk tickets in batches of 10 remains the same as in 2011.

If you’re an passenger older than 6 years of age you’ll have to pay an extra quarter to ride the bus in Milton, as the price jumps to an even $3. Children younger than 6 continue to ride free of fare.

If you’re an adult passenger — older than 18 and younger than 65 — you’ll pay $64, instead of $60, to buy a monthly pass. Seniors — passengers 65 or older — pay $45, instead of $42. Students — passengers from 6 to 18 years of age — still pay $45.

Passengers holding valid GO Transit tickets or passes start paying an extra 10 cents — a total of 60 cents, instead of 50 cents, when they ride Milton Transit buses to and from the GO train.
