Mississauga Transit bus catches fire
on the 401 during morning rush hour today

The Toronto Star reports that a Mississauga Transit bus burst into flames beside Highway 401 during rush hour this morning.

The westbound bus was carrying passengers along the collector lanes of the highway near Highway 410 about 7:45 a.m., when the driver noticed that it was spewing smoke from its engine. After the driver and all passengers had safely left the bus, flames engulfed the rear of the bus.

The flames and dark smoke forced the Ontario Provincial Police to close the collector lanes to all traffic for about twenty minutes at the height of rush hour, while firefighters put out the fire. An OPP spokesperson said that an electrical problem likely caused the blaze.
