TTC 0000 Accessible Transit 19480129-02

This picture, taken by Acme Newspictures for the New York Bureau on January 29, 1948, reads "SPECIAL BUS FOR CRIPPLED VETERANS - TORONTO, CANADA: This is the interior of a standard twin coach bus which was converted to a special bus for paraplegic veterans. When the center door is opened, passengers leave on a specially built-in ramp drawn out from the bus. Wheelchairs are placed side by side and the wheels fastened so that the chairs won't roll when the bus is in motion. From the outside it looks like any standard bus." Note the phrase "standard bus", and how the news reporter stresses treating the handicapped veterans like standard passengers.
