October 14, 1936

Service begins on a new bus route on Eglinton Avenue, supplementing service on the EGLINTON route and striking out into the Township of York. Buses operate from a wye at Times and Eglinton, just west of Oakwood and run east on Eglinton to wye at Starrett, just west of Yonge. Service operates every ten minutes during peak periods and every fifteen minutes off-peak. Additional rush hour service is operated from Yonge west to a wye at Heddington.

The portion of the route west of Latimer is in the suburban fare zone, while the portion of the route east of Latimer is in the central fare zone. Buses operate out of Davenport garage.

October 28, 1936

Buses use Starrett loop as the eastern terminus of the route. This loop is located on the south side of Eglinton between Yonge and Duplex, on the grounds of the TTC's Eglinton carhouse. This loop is later renamed the Yonge-Eglinton loop.

February 10, 1938

Service in the west end is rerouted to run via west on Eglinton and south on Oakwood, wyeing at Lanark and returning via the reverse route.

April 1, 1938

Operation transferred to Eglinton garage.

December 14, 1939

Rush hour short turn service extended west of Heddington one block to Castlewood.

June 2, 1941

Castlewood rush hour short turn service discontinued.

November 17, 1941

Castlewood rush hour short turn service restored.

September 23, 1943

Castlewood rush hour short turn service discontinued permanently.

March 10, 1947

Route revised to operate west on Eglinton and north on Times to a wye at Hopewell.

April 1, 1949

With the inauguration of the BRIAR HILL bus, EGLINTON WEST buses now loop at Oakwood via south on Alameda, west on Lanark and north on Oakwood.

May 28, 1952

Yonge-Eglinton loop now unavailable due to construction of the YONGE SUBWAY. Buses now loop via north on Edith, east on Orchard View and south on Duplex.

March 7, 1954

Buses now loop through the partially completed bus terminal at Eglinton station. Buses run east on Eglinton to the new terminal, south through Bay #3, west on the terminal roadway, loading and unloading passengers in the open area south of Bay #8, then north through Bay #10 and west on Eglinton.

March 30, 1954

At 1:30 p.m., the YONGE SUBWAY opens to the public. Buses now terminate in Bay #8 in the new Eglinton bus terminal. Buses leave this terminal by running westbound on the terminal roadway, then north on Duplex to Eglinton.

July 1, 1954

As part of a general restructuring of fares and services, the entire EGLINTON WEST route is incorporated within the city central fare zone.

December 12, 1955

Rush hour express service introduced between Eglinton station (Bay #9) and Gilbert loop. Buses operate non-stop between the subway and Oakwood and then local between Oakwood and gilbert. Grey Coach equipment is used initially for this express service. Such was the success of this line that within six months after it was inaugurated the headway has been reduced from 10 minutes to 4 minutes.

January 26, 1956

Regular red "city" buses are now used on the express service.

December 1956

A summary from this month shows service on the EGLINTON WEST divided into two branches: "Oakwood", operating 4.7 round trip miles with a 35 minute round trip time and an average speed of 8.1 mph, and the "Gilbert Express", operating 7.1 round trip miles with a 40 minute round trip time and an average speed of 10.3 mph. During rush hours, the Oakwood branch operated at headways of 2 minutes, 45 seconds, while the Gilbert Branch operated on a 7 minute headway. At all other periods, buses on the Oakwood branch operated on a 7 minute headway.

Service assigned route number 32.

July 4, 1957

Express buses now stop both ways at Bathurst.

December 29, 1957

Local buses now stop in Bay #7 instead of Bay #8 at Eglinton station. Express buses continue to use Bay #9.

April 7, 1959

Service revised so that the 32 "Oakwood" branch operates at 2 minute 30 second intervals during rush hours, every 6 minutes during the midday, every 7 minutes during the evening and every 9 minutes during the weekend. The 32B "Gilbert" express branch operates at 3 minute 10 second intervals during rush hours only. Already, 27 rush hour buses are scheduled for this route.

September 1, 1963

Service is extended west to Weston Road, looping via south on Weston, west on York and north on Guestville. During rush hours, local and express services operate to both Weston and Gilbert. Short turn trips westbound to Gilbert continue Monday through Saturday, with some peak period trips running express.

This is part of a general rerouting of suburban routes that provides more of grid system, instead of the previous radial style of routes.

December 13, 1963

After 5 p.m. on this date, "Weston Road" buses now turn back in the new Pearen loop, located one block west of Weston Road, on the northeast corner of Eglinton and Pearen.

March 2, 1968

All Saturday service runs through to Weston Road, eliminating short turn service at Gilbert.

May 13, 1968

Rush hour extras are now operated out of Lansdowne garage instead of Eglinton garage, which continues to operate all base service.

January 3, 1971

Bridge over the Humber River opens, connecting Eglinton Avenue to Richview Avenue in central Etobicoke (If it hasn't been already, Richview Avenue is renamed Eglinton). Weekday service is extended west via Eglinton to Royal York, looping via north on Royal York, west on LaRose and south on Russell. It is not known if express operation during rush hours is extended west from Weston Road to Royal York at this time.

January 2, 1972

Evening and weekend service is extended to Royal York.

April 17, 1972

Express service discontinued.

October 16, 1972

Monday through Friday daytime service is extended west on Eglinton from Royal York to Martin Grove, with buses looping via north on Willowridge, east on Richgrove and south on Martin Grove. This looping was reversed at a later date.

November 26, 1972

Service begins on a new branch on Trethewey, replacing a portion of the 83 TRETHEWEY route. Buses run from Eglinton station via west on Eglinton, northwest on Trethewey and north on Jane, looping via west on Wright, north on Pine and east on Lawrence to Jane, returning via the reverse route. This branch replaces the 32C service to Weston Road.

September 2, 1973

Evening and weekend operation is extended to Martin Grove, ending service on the Royal York branch.

November 25, 1973

Every second or third Martin Grove trip is extended to the Carlingview Industrial area. The new 32B service operates via west on Eglinton, north on Renforth, north on Carlingview and east on Disco Road, to loop via south on Brockport, west on Belfield and north on Attwell.

Buses now operate out of the Queensway garage instead of Eglinton garage. Rush hour extras continue to operate out of Lansdowne garage.

February 4, 1974

Rush hour short turn service extended from Gilbert to Weston Road.

January 28, 1978

With the opening of the SPADINA SUBWAY, all buses are routed through Eglinton West station. Peak period short turn service now runs between Weston Road and Eglinton West station only.

February 5, 1979

AM peak period trips running east from Weston Road are extended east of Eglinton West station to Eglinton station as branch 32A.

September 2, 1980

A new peak period branch launched operating between Eglinton West station and Jane, serving the residential developments along Emmett Avenue.. Buses loop in the west end via west on Eglinton, north and east on Emmett and south on Jane.

November 22, 1980

With the extension of the BLOOR-DANFORTH subway to Kipling station, service in the west end of the city is revised. Buses on the Carlingview/Disco Road extension are replaced by the new 112 WEST MALL route. All through service on Eglinton now loops in the west end at a new loop built on the north side of Eglinton just west of Renforth. The Martin Grove looping is discontinued.

September 5, 1982

All base service is operated out of Eglinton garage, with Lansdowne garage continuing to provide some peak extras.

June 26 or July 24, 1983

The peak period buses that were operated from Lansdowne garage are now transferred to Eglinton.

January 6, 1986

Midday service is introduced to the 32D Jane and Emmett branch on weekdays.

February 8, 1987

Overnight service added between Yonge and Renforth with the new 307 EGLINGTON WEST BLUE NIGHT bus route.

February 8, 1988

All peak period trips to Weston Road (32 and 32A) discontinued. An enhanced peak period short turn service continues to operate on the 32D Jane and Emmett branch to Eglinton West station.

May 14, 1990

Once again some peak period buses are operated by Lansdowne garage.

January 5, 1992

Due to concerns about buses making the left turn out of Renforth loop, weekday daytime service extended west of Renforth into the City of Mississauga, with buses running running west on Eglinton, north on Commerce, west on Skymark and south on Explorer, returning east on Eglinton. Initially no stops are set up on the expanded loop. At a later date, buses bypass Renforth loop entirely and serve stops in Mississauga.

Note: the west end destinations of 32C and 32D are changed with the introduction of electronic signs. The exact date of this change is unknown.

January 3, 1993

Peak period buses are no longer operated out of Lansdowne garage. Operation of this route is now split between the Eglinton and Queensway garages.

March 28, 1993

The looping at Skymark is reversed, with buses now operating west on Eglinton, north on Explorer, east on Skymark and south on Commerce. Buses were operated over this revised route "since early January", but the new route became official on this date.

February 14, 1994

A new rush hour express service is introduced between Skymark and Eglinton West station. Buses serve all stops between Skymark and Weston Road and then operate express, stopping only at Keele, Caledonia and Dufferin. Rush hour service from Jane and Emmett is extended east from Eglinton West station to Eglinton station.

March 27, 1994

Afternoon rush hour trips are added to Michael Power/St. Joseph's High School at Eringate and Renforth. These buses run from the school via north on Renforth and east on Eglinton to Eglinton West station with some trips running through to Eglinton station.

September 5, 1995

Express service discontinued. All Jane and Emmett trips run to Eglinton West station only

February 18, 2002

In co-operation with the City of Mississauga, service extended west of Skymark through the Airport Corporate Centre almost to Dixie Road. Buses operate westbound from Eglinton station, over the regular route to Eglinton and Commerce Boulevard then north on Commerce, west on Skymark, north on Explorer, west on Matheson, south on Spectrum Way, west on Eglinton, north on Matheson Boulevard Extension to Tech Avenue. Buses return east on Tech Avenue, north on Creekbank, east on Matheson, south on Explorer, east on Skymark, south on Commerce, then east on Eglinton, over the regular route to Eglinton station. Service operates through the Airport Corporate Centre Monday through Friday except Holidays from 7 am to 7 pm. The letter "B" designation for Skymark and Renforth is dropped, with these trips now display route "32". 32B is applied to the new extension. Funding for the operation of this route is provided by the City of Mississauga, but TTC fares apply, and the entire route is considered to be within the TTC fare zone. Mississauga Transit tickets, transfers, and passes are not accepted.

NOTE: Since Tech Avenue was not open to traffic until April 14, 2003 buses initially operated north on Creekbank from Eglinton to Tech.

March 31, 2002

With Eglinton garage at Yonge closed and moved to a new facility on Comstock Road, buses on this route are now operated from Wilson garage alone.

May 12, 2002

Hours of operation on the "Renforth and Skymark" branch is increased to include Monday through Friday early evening and during the daytime on Saturday.

April 4, 2003

A new bus terminal at Eglinton station, located in the old Eglinton garage area, is opened. This terminal replaces the original bus terminal opened in 1954 when subway operation began. Buses enter and exit the new terminal from the east side of Duplex, south of Eglinton.

January 5, 2004

A separate Mississauga fare is charged on the portion of the 32B branch operating west of the Skymark. Mississauga tickets, transfers and passes are now accepted.

September 6, 2005

The Skymark branch becomes route 32A. Previously no letter was used, Skymark trips displayed 32(no letter), the same as trips to Renforth.

May 11, 2008

Service designated accessible using low floor Orion VII and Flyer D40LF buses on all runs.

November 23, 2008

As part of the TTC's Ridership Growth Strategy, evening and weekend service is added to the 32D Jane and Emmett branch of the route. Also on this date, operation of this route is transferred to the newly opened Mount Dennis garage.

February 17, 2009

At the request of the City of Mississauga, service is reduced in the Airport Corporate Centre, with some midday trips cut back to Skymark.

October 8, 2010

Last day of 32B service into Mississauga's Airport Corporate Centre. The service is removed at the request of the City of Mississauga. 32B trips that operated into Mississauga now run as 32A to Skymark.

May 8, 2011

As part of a general reallocation of resources, service on the 32D "Eglinton West station to Jane and Emmett" branch eliminated after 10 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and after 7 p.m. on Sundays and Holidays. Service on the 32A "Renforth and Skymark" branch eliminated on Saturdays, with all buses operating instead on the 32 "Renforth" branch.
