While many mourned the passing of Toronto’s trolley bus network, the replacement of these fixed routes with more flexible buses allowed the TTC to implement a major restructuring of transit routes in west Toronto and the City of York. Among the changes was the rerouting of the 41 KEELE bus off of Old Weston Road and Symington and onto Keele, giving the route access to the subway at its namesake station rather than at Lansdowne. However, to serve Old Weston Road and Symington Avenue, the TTC determined that a separate route should operate. It began operations on February 13, 1994.

February 13, 1994

A new route replacing the southern portion of the 41 KEELE route which began operating from the Keele Station instead of the Lansdowne Station on this date. Route 168 buses operate from Dundas West Station via Bloor, Symington, Davenport, Old Weston, and Rogers Road to Bicknell Loop. Early Sunday service short turns at Townsley Loop, just north of St.Clair.

Orion bus VII #8028 runs along Rogers Road, about to cross Regent Street, passing low-rise buildings made of dark brick. This old-fashioned architecture is rather typical for that area of Toronto. Photo by Roman Fomin on June 11, 2013.
