Carlton / Church track repairs: TTC detour, November 6

From 9 a.m. Tuesday, November 5 until 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 6, TTC crews are repairing the streetcar tracks

  • at the intersection of Carlton Street with Church Street.

From 12:01 until 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, the TTC is also detouring streetcars along these routes, while crews work in the track area:

  • 306 Carlton overnight; and
  • 506 Carlton.

Shuttle buses replace the cars between Parliament and McCaul Streets.

Starting at about 9 a.m. Tuesday, November 5, a TTC track crew sets up a new work zone in the track area with barrels and barricades. The City of Toronto is temporarily restricting parking and left turns at the intersection. A track crew will work “around-the-clock” to complete the project on time.

Soon after the crews have set up the work zone, they’ll use a milling machine to remove most of the concrete in the track area. They then chip the remaining concrete to completely expose the old rail.

Crews finish excavating and removing concrete by 10 p.m. Other minor work activities not involving excavation continue overnight after 10 p.m., including replacing the old rail with new rail. The crews cut, weld and grind the rail, then place concrete in the track area and set it to cure.

The new concrete requires curing time before the crews can remove the work zone so that regular traffic can resume by 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 4.
