Highway 7 West rapidway - Woodbridge:
Storm sewer, hydro poles, starting October 9

Metrolinx and York Region contractors continue building a rapidway — bus-only lanes in the centre of the roadway — along Highway 7 West between Helen Street / Wigwoss Drive and Vaughan Metropolitan Centre.

This week, crews are upgrading the storm sewer near Interchange Way and installing new hydro poles between John Frank Road and Bruce Street.

From 7 p.m. Tuesday, October 9 until 6 a.m. Wednesday, October 10 and overnight nightly, crews are conducting storm sewer work

  • on Highway 7 West, south side, between the ramp from Highway 400 and Interchange Way.

The work zone blocks the eastbound curb traffic lane.

York Region Transit may temporarily relocate bus stops. Passengers aboard buses along these routes can also expect delays:

  • Viva orange; and
  • 77 / 77A Highway 7.

Storm sewer work on Highway 7 between Highway 400 and Interchange Way — and the resulting BT and YRT detours — continue until 6 a.m. October 17.

Note that the Region of York and the City of Vaughan are completely closing this section of Highway 7 West to all traffic from 10 p.m. Friday, October 12 until 5 a.m. Monday, October 15, so crews can complete another component of the project. We’ll post details of the closure and the resulting BT and YRT detours soon.

From 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Tuesday, October 9 and Wednesday, October 10 and again from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday, October 15 and Tuesday, October 16, crews are installing new hydro poles on

  • Highway 7 West, south side, between Bruce Street and John Frank Road.

They’re also installing a few stub poles on the north side of the street.

The work zone may block the east- and westbound curb lanes between Bruce and Helen Street / Wigwoss Drive at various times throughout the project. In particular, it blocks westbound curb lanes from 9:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. each day.

Crews will use a crane to hoist the poles above the overheard wires and lower them into concrete foundations. Traffic-control personnel and “paid-duty” York Regional Police officers will stop traffic in all directions for ten to fifteen minutes at a time, whenever the crane is operating.

Brampton Transit passengers aboard buses along this route should expect delays:
