Four groups of workers at York University, members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 3903, are in a legal position to go on strike against their employer tomorrow, Monday, March 5.

The local represents contract faculty, teaching assistants, graduate assistants and research assistants at the university.

If a labour disruption occurs, During a labour disruption, transit agencies do not allow their vehicles to cross picket lines. Buses that ordinarily would operate through the Keele campus would detour and remain on nearby streets.

The TTC’s Line 1 Yonge - University subway trains, however, would continues to operate, with full subway service available at the two campus stations, Pioneer Village and York University.

When the TTC opened the two new subway stations last December, it also rerouted most buses off the campus. However, buses along two routes continue to serve parts of the campus. The TTC is detouring buses operating along these routes Mondays to Fridays from 7 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.:

  • 41A Keele; and
  • 106 Sentinel.

It’s also advising passengers riding buses along Keele Street and Steeles Avenue West to expect delays as picketers delay traffic from entering the Keele campus, backing up traffic on those nearby streets. Expect delays along these routes:

  • 35A Jane;
  • 35B Jane via Hullmar;
  • 60A Steeles West;
  • 60B / 60D Steeles West;
  • 60E Steeles West express;
  • 84D Sheppard West via Oakdale;
  • 107 St Regis;
  • 108 Driftwood;

along their regular route southward along Keele.

Southbound buses skip their regular stops

  • in Pioneer Village Station bus terminal,
  • on Steeles Avenue West across from #2700 Steeles West, east of Founders Road and Keele Street and at Petrolia Road,
  • on Petrolia Road south of Steeles Avenue West and at Wildcat Road and Canarctic Drive and
  • on Canarctic Drive at Keele Street.

Instead, southbound buses pick up passengers at a temporary stop

  • on Keele Street at York Boulevard.

Northbound buses operate along their regular route to Steeles Avenue West and Keele Street, then detour:

southward along Keele to York Boulevard,
ending their trips.

Northbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Steeles Avenue West across from Founders Road and beside #2700 Steeles West and
  • in Pioneer Village Station bus terminal.
