No subway service, Sheppard-Yonge to St Clair,
February 24

Update — Friday, February 22, 12:06 p.m.: The TTC is only closing the line Saturday, February 24, instead of both Saturday and Sunday.

line 1 closure.jpg

The TTC is closing part of its Line 1 Yonge - University subway between Sheppard - Yonge and St Clair stations all day Saturday, February 24 and Sunday, February 25. Line 1 trains operate only between Finch and Sheppard - Yonge stations and between St Clair and Vaughan Metropolitan Centre stations.

This weekend Saturday, Metrolinx contractors continue working on the Eglinton - Crosstown light rail transit line, requiring the TTC to close this part of Line 1. The TTC is taking advantage of this work to maintain tracks and remove asbestos from the line north of Eglinton Station.

The TTC is not operating shuttle buses along Yonge Street, while this part of the subway is closed. Instead, it’s encouraging passengers to use the University branch of Line 1, by operating express east-west shuttle buses to whisk passengers between the two branches of the line.

Special express buses operate along these routes this weekend Saturday:

  • 32 Eglinton West, linking Eglinton and Eglinton West stations;
  • 52 Lawrence West, linking Lawrence and Lawrence West stations;
  • 84 Sheppard West, linking Sheppard - Yonge and Sheppard West stations; and
  • 186 Wilson rocket, linking York Mills and Wilson Stations.

The TTC says it’s also operating more buses and streetcars to increase regular service along the 61 Avenue Rd North and 512 St Clair routes during the closure.

(Regular service is also available on parallel streets — for example, along the 5 Avenue Rd route, linking Eglinton and Queen’s Park stations and the 97 Yonge route, serving all stations on the Yonge branch of the line between Finch and Davisville stations. However, the TTC is not adding extra service to routes 5 and 97.)

Free parking is available on the University branch of the line at Highway 407, Pioneer Village and Finch West stations. Regular parking fees apply to lots at Sheppard West, Wilson and Yorkdale stations.

Current and upcoming Crosstown work in the area of Yonge Street and Eglinton Avenue includes construction below the TTC’s Eglinton Station, shifting the TTC’s platform to the north and building and installing a new TTC tunnel ventilation system at the south and north ends of the subway platform. Metrolinx intends to open the LRT in 2021.

Metrolinx requires the TTC to close this part of the subway line more than 20 times this year for Crosstown construction. Several times, including this weekend, the TTC is using the opportunity to maintain tracks or repair portions of the line north of Eglinton. Those weekends, like this one, the TTC is extending the closure area further north to Sheppard - Yonge or Finch Stations.

All stations on the closed section of the subway line remain open for passengers to buy fares or connect with buses and streetcars.

At Davisville Station, the bus terminal is closed to most passengers Saturday and Sunday. Regular buses operating along the 11 Bayview, 28 Bayview South and 97 Yonge routes drop off or pick up passengers on Chaplin Crescent, Davisville Avenue or Yonge Street, instead of the terminal, this weekend Saturday.

Buses operating along the 14 Glencairn route continue to serve passengers inside Davisville Station terminal.

Buses along the 11 Bayview and 28 Bayview South routes also start and end their trips in the lower bus terminal at St Clair Station.

The TTC is working with the City of Toronto and Toronto Police Service to temporarily restrict on-street parking on Pleasant Boulevard to keep transit and vehicular traffic flowing as smoothly as possible for all road users. The City is also restricting parking on St Clair Avenue East between Ferndale Avenue and Yonge Street.

The TTC is next closing this section of the subway for Metrolinx construction:

  • Saturday, May 19 and Sunday, May 20 (between Lawrence and St Clair).

Davisville Station — closure Saturday, February 24 and Sunday, February 25

TTC buses drop off or pick up passengers on the street this weekend Saturday, while the bus terminal at Davisville Station is closed. The TTC has not detailed how buses loop to turn around at the end of their trips, but passengers are mostly interested in where to exit from or board the buses.

11 Bayview

Exit from buses on the north side of Davisville Avenue, just east of Yonge Street. Board buses on the south side of Davisville, just east of Yonge.

After leaving Davisville and Yonge, southbound buses proceed:
