DRT reveals 2017 service plans



Durham Region Transit has revealed its 2017 service plans in advance of its annual public information centres.

DRT is making major changes to its services three times this year:

The September changes include increasing frequency along several routes towards the goal of developing a high-frequency network throughout southern Durham Region and introducing new services.

It’s revising service along these routes: 103B Glenanna / Strouds; 111 East Pickering, 120 Whites; 199 Claremont; 216 Harwood North; 219 Ravenscroft; 224 Harwood South / Salem South; 225 Audley North; 226 Westney South; 283 Ajax North late-night shuttle; 284 Ajax South late-night shuttle; 302 Brock / Brooklin; 303 Garden; 304 Anderson; 305 Thickson / Garrard; 305 Thickson; 308 Whitby Shores; 318 Garden / Otter Creek; 385 Whitby late-night shuttle; 401 Simcoe; 408 Garrard / Stevenson; 409 Thornton / Stevenson; 409 Garrard; 420 Britannia West; 603 Brock Road; 900 PULSE; 910 Campus Connect; 915 Taunton; 916 Rossland; 922B Bloor / Townline.

Service changes — Monday, April 10 (highlights)


283 Ajax North late-night shuttle

New trip at 11 p.m. from Ajax GO Station. Replaces service along the 216 Harwood North, 219 Ravenscroft and 225 Audley North routes.

284 Ajax South late-night shuttle

New trip at 11 p.m. from Ajax GO Station. Replaces service along the 224 Harwood South / Salem South and 226 Westney South routes.

304 Anderson

Earlier service along the 385 Ajax North late-night shuttle route replaces the current 11 p.m. trip from Whitby GO Station.

225 Audley North

Earlier service along the 283 Ajax North late-night shuttle route replaces the current 11 p.m. trip from Ajax GO Station.

922 Bloor / Townline

No service between Harmony Terminal and Nash Road Mondays to Fridays from about 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. or after 7:30 p.m.

910 Campus Connect

Revised path so that buses operate both ways along Thornton Roads North and South between Taunton Road and Gibb Street and on Taunton Road East between Thornton North and Simcoe Street North.

Buses no longer operate along Rossland Road East and Simcoe Street North between Taunton and Rossland Roads.

111 East Pickering

Less frequent service — every hour, instead of every 30 minutes — Mondays to Fridays from about 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. and all day Saturdays.

No service after 7:30 p.m. Mondays to Fridays and Saturdays.

303 Garden

Later trip leaves Whitby GO Station at 7:40 p.m.

318 Garden / Otter Creek

No service after 7:30 p.m. Mondays to Fridays and Saturdays.

103B Glenanna / Strouds

No service after 7:30 p.m. Mondays to Fridays and Saturdays.

216 Harwood North

Earlier service along the 283 Ajax North late-night shuttle route replaces the current 11 p.m. trip from Ajax GO Station.

224 Harwood South / Salem North

Earlier service along the 284 Ajax South late-night shuttle route replaces the current 11 p.m. trip from Ajax GO Station.

DRT is also revising service along this route in September.

305 Thickson / Garrard

More frequent service — every 30 minutes, instead of every hour — Saturdays, Sundays and holidays before 7 p.m.

224 Harwood South / Salem South

More frequent service — every 30 minutes, instead of every hour — Sundays and holidays before 7 p.m.

DRT is also revising service along the route in April.

900 PULSE

More frequent service — every 20 minutes, instead of every 30 minutes — Mondays to Fridays after 7 p.m.

Buses drop off or pick up passengers at all stops along the route at most every 30 minutes. (Meaning: you don’t ever have to wait longer than 30 minutes for a bus at all times that buses operate along the route.)

916 Rossland

More frequent service — every 30 minutes, instead of every hour — Saturdays, Sundays and holidays before 7 p.m.

More frequent service — every 30 minutes, instead of every hour — Mondays to Fridays 7 until 10 p.m.

401 Simcoe

Buses drop off or pick up passengers at all stops along the route at most every 30 minutes. (Meaning: you don’t ever have to wait longer than 30 minutes for a bus at all times that buses operate along the route.)

915 Taunton

More frequent service — every 30 minutes, instead of every hour — Saturdays, Sundays and holidays before 7 p.m.

More frequent service — every 30 minutes, instead of every hour — Mondays to Fridays 10 until 11 p.m.

More short-turn tripper buses Monday-to-Friday mornings and midday to address over-crowding on some buses.

Introducing new services
420 Britannia West

New 30-minute rush hour service linking the new Britannia West community with the North Oshawa campuses of Durham College and the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT).

Buses operate along Simcoe Street North and Conlin Road West.

603 Brock Road

New Monday-to-Friday service between Uxbridge, Claremont and Pickering. Replaces service along the 199 Claremont route. DRT operates buses along 6 round trips weekdays.

199 Claremont

DRT is cancelling the route to provide more service along the new 603 Brock Road route. DRT offers six weekday round trips along the new route, replacing a single trip in each directions Fridays only along route 199.

408 Garrard

DRT introduces new two-way service along Garrard Road between Dryden Boulevard and Burns Street East, replacing current service along the 305 Thickson / Garrard route.

Southbound buses start their trips on Thickson Road North at Taunton Road East, then proceed:

eastward along Taunton East;
southward along Garrard and Kendalwood Roads;
eastward along Burns Street East and Gibb Street; and then
northward into Oshawa Centre Terminal,
ending their trips.

Northbound buses start their trips in Oshawa Centre Terminal, then proceed:

westward along Gibb Street and Burns Street East;
northward along Kendalwood and Garrard Roads;
westward along Dryden Boulevard; and then
northward along Thickson Road North to Taunton Road East,
ending their trips.

Buses operate daily.

409 Garrard / Stevenson

DRT replaces part of the current 409 Thornton / Stevenson route with this new route. Buses operate southbound along Garrard Road, instead of Thornton Road North, between Taunton and Rossland Roads.

Southbound buses start their trips on Thickson Road North at Taunton Road East, then proceed:

eastward along Taunton East;
southward along Garrard Road;
eastward along Rossland Road;
southward along Stevenson Roads North and South;
eastward along Gibb Street; and then
northward into Oshawa Centre Terminal,
ending their trips.

Northbound buses start their trips in Oshawa Centre Terminal, then proceed:

westward along Gibb Street and Burns Street East;
northward along Kendalwood and Garrard Roads;
westward along Dryden Boulevard; and then
northward along Thickson Road North to Taunton Road East,
ending their trips.

Buses operate Mondays to Fridays during rush hours.

305 Garrard

DRT introduces new two-way service along Thickson Roads North and South between Dryden Boulevard and Burns Street East, replacing current service along the 305 Thickson / Garrard route.

Southbound buses start their trips on Thickson Road North at Taunton Road East, then proceed:

eastward along Taunton East;
southward along Garrard Road;
westward along Dryden Boulevard;
southward along Thickson North and South;
westward** along Consumers Drive;
southward along Brock Street South; and then
westward into Whitby GO Station bus terminal,
ending their trips.

Northbound buses start their trips in Whitby GO Station bus terminal, then proceed:

northward along Brock Street South;
eastward along Consumers Drive; and then
northward along Thickson Road North to Taunton Road East,
ending their trips.

305 Thickson / Garrard

DRT cancels the route and replaces it with service along new routes 305 Thickson, 408 Garrard and 409 Garrard / Stevenson.

With this change DRT provides two-way service along Thickson Roads North and South between Dryden Boulevard and Consumers Drive and along Garrard and Kendalwood Roads between Dryden and Burns Street East.

DRT is also revising service along this route in April.

409 Thornton / Stevenson

DRT cancels the route and replaces it with service along new route 409 Garrard / Stevenson. Buses operate southbound along Garrard Road, instead of Thornton Road North, between Taunton and Rossland Roads.

DRT provides two-way serve along Thornton Roads North and South between Taunton Road West and Gibb Street along the 910 Campus Connect route.

120 Whites

More frequent service — every 30 minutes, instead of every hour — Sundays and holidays 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.

(This route will not be part of the eventual high-frequency network of routes.)
