TTC expanding Davisville carhouse

The TTC is extending part of Davisville Carhouse, on Line 1 beside Davisville subway station at Yonge Street and Chaplin Crescent.

During this project, contractors are extending the yard at the north and south ends. When they finish work, the complex will include two more subway tracks to accommodate the entire length of the new Toronto Rocket trains and improve the efficiency of maintenance operations. The yard will remain in full operation during the project.

Crews mostly work on this project Mondays to Fridays from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m., but may also occasionally work weekends and overnight, if necessary. The contractors are setting up a safe work zone with concrete barriers and hoarding to allow them to work during the day without impacting daily yard operations.

Crews are on the site starting Friday, February 10 and throughout the weekend to create the safe work zone. The contractors will work around-the-clock to make sure the TTC can restore power to the nearby tracks in the yard by Monday morning. You may hear noise from construction equipment during this work.

Crews mostly work in the TTC yard, except they’re also installing a maintenance gate at the north-east corner of Duplex Avenue and Chaplin Crescent.

During this project, crews are:

  • demolishing the north and south ends of the carhouse;
  • digging out and and disposing of soil to build new foundations and install new sewers;
  • building new structures to extend the south and north ends of the carhouse;
  • installing mechanical and electrical systems, tracks, fire protection and sprinklers, a maintenance platform and lighting in the new additions; and
  • reinstating the track which they removed to create a safe work zone.

Construction at the Davisville Carhouse continues until March 2019.

Crews also continue working at Vincent (or “Keele”) Yard — on Line 2 between Keele and Dundas West stations — so the TTC can again store trains overnight there.
