Update — Sunday, June 11, 6:07 p.m.: Crews have finished working in the middle of The Queensway bridge over the Humber. Starting tomorrow, Friday, June 12, they start working on the north and south sides of the bridge.


Update — Wednesday, May 3, 8:53 a.m.: Starting Sunday, May 7, the TTC is revising shuttle bus services to prepare for other construction projects on Queen Streets West and East.


Update — Friday, April 21, 6:39 a.m.: To continue preparing for the project, starting Monday, April 24, crews are moving the rails to a storage site between Third Street and 2765 Lake Shore Boulevard West. The rails remain at this site until November 30.


Update — Thursday, April 20, 6:45 a.m.: Starting Monday, April 24, the TTC closes Humber Loop to all buses and extends the path for buses operating along the 66A Prince Edward route.


Update — Monday, March 31, 7:46 a.m.: To prepare for the project, starting Monday, April 3, TTC crews are welding rail into longer strings at Lake Shore Boulevard West and Islington Avenue / Seventh Street. They’re moving the longer strings to store between Sixth and Fifth Streets. Welding and moving the rails continues until April 13.


Update — Monday, March 6, 5:47 p.m.: To prepare for the project, starting Wednesday, March 8,, TTC crews are welding rail into longer strings between Windermere and Ellis Avenues. They’re moving the longer strings to store west of Windermere. Welding and moving the rails continues until March 31.


Update — Monday, March 6, 3:07 p.m.: The City has published a timeline for the project to rehabilitate The Queensway bridge over the Humber River.


Next week, the TTC and the City of Toronto start working on various projects affecting TTC service on Lake Shore Boulevard West and The Queensway.

The projects include:

  • renewing the TTC tracks and overhead wiring on Lake Shore Boulevard West between Dwight Avenue (west of Royal York Road) and Humber Loop;
  • renewing the TTC tracks and overhead wiring on The Queensway between Humber Loop and Parkside Drive;
  • rehabilitating The Queensway bridge over the Humber River; and
  • improving Humber Loop, including
  • installing new tracks, accessible streetcar platforms and new shelters;
  • rebuilding the tunnel walkway;
  • replacing the roof of the service building; and
  • building a new electrical substation.

(Updated — Monday, March 6, 3:07 p.m.) For The Queensway bridge project (.pdf) crews are:

  • (Updated — Sunday, June 11, 6:07 p.m.) from Monday, March 6 until about Friday, June 16Sunday, June 11 — working in the middle of the bridge to remove the TTC tracks and the bridge deck and replace bridge bearings. They’ll also start building a new deck, including waterproofing and paving.
  • (Updated — Sunday, June 11, 6:07 p.m.) from Monday, June 19 Monday, June 12 until about Friday, September 15 — working on the north and south sides of the bridge, with traffic shifting to the centre of the bridge. They’ll build new sidewalks, parapet walls, light poles and metal railings. They’ll finish building the new bridge deck until September 17.
  • from Monday, September 18 until Friday, December 29 — replacing the streetcar tracks, reinstating the overheard wiring and installing the top layer of asphalt and permanent road-lane markings.

Starting Sunday, January 8, the construction affects TTC services along several routes:

  • 66 Prince Edward;
  • 80 Queensway;
  • 301 Queen overnight; and
  • 501 Queen.

Shuttle buses replace streetcars west of Roncesvalles Avenue. The buses operate along two routes:

  • 301L / 501L Queen / Long Branch shuttle: between Long Branch and Dufferin Gate Loops;
  • 501M Queen / Marine Parade shuttle: between Park Lawn Road and Windermere Avenue (Update — Wednesday, May 3, 8:53 a.m.: only until Saturday, May 6); and
  • (Update — Wednesday, May 3, 8:53 a.m.) 501P Queen / Park Lawn shuttle, starting Sunday, May 7.

These buses do not operate through Humber Loop.

Construction on Lake Shore Boulevard West, in Humber Loop and on The Queensway and the TTC detours continue throughout 2017, or until December 31.

Buses operate along their regular route through the construction. Buses serving the 66A branch continue to start and end their trips in Humber Loop. Buses serving the 66B branch continue to start and end their trips on Marine Parade Drive.

(Updated — Thursday, April 20, 6:45 a.m.) Starting Monday, April 24, the TTC closes Humber Loop to all buses and extends the path for buses operating along the 66A branch.

Southbound buses operate along their regular route to The Queensway at the bus entrance to Humber Loop, then proceed:

eastward along The Queensway;
southward along Ellis Avenue;
westward along Lake Shore Boulevard West; and then
northward along Windermere Avenue to The Queensway,

The first stop for eastbound streetcars to pick up passengers is on The Queensway at King Street West. The last westbound stop for streetcars to drop off passengers is on Queen Street West at Roncesvalles Avenue.
