King East / Sumach track repairs:
Overnight, starting August 11

Update — Tuesday, September 27, 2:44 p.m.: Construction continues overnight from 10 p.m. until 7 a.m. “for two weeks”, or until October 11.

Update — Thursday, September 22, 9:01 p.m.: Construction continues until further notice.

Update — Thursday, September 8, 1:25 p.m.: Construction continues seven nights a week until 5:30 a.m. September 22.

Starting early Thursday, August 11, TTC track crews are maintaining the streetcar tracks, including welding and grinding, at the intersection of King Street East and Sumach Street and on Sumach just south of King East. This work will improve the interface between streetcar wheel and track, reducing noise levels when streetcars operate along curves in the area.

Crews must work overnight when service is less frequent, traffic is lighter and streetcar service less frequent. This is a slow process and may require as much as three to four weeks of overnight work to complete. Expect noise when equipment is fully operating.

The TTC is maintaining regular service along the 304 King overnight and 504 King routes. It is detouring streetcars operating along the 514 Cherry route early mornings throughout August and early September. It’s operating shuttle buses to replace the cars on Sumach and Cherry Streets.
