Bay streetcar tunnel closed,

The TTC is temporary closing the streetcar tunnel that links Union Station with Queens Quay, early tomorrow, Sunday, January 24, while crews relocate a diesel tank.

Closing the tunnel affects TTC service along these routes:

  • 317 Spadina overnight;
  • 509 Harbourfront; and
  • 510 Spadina.

Buses replace streetcars along the 317 Spadina overnight route from about 3 until 5 a.m. and along the 509 Harbourfront route from about 5:30 until 8 a.m.

The TTC is already operating buses along the route during construction at Exhibition Loop.

From about 5:30 until 8 a.m., eastbound buses operate along their regular route to Bathurst and Fleet Streets, then detour:

southward along Bathurst;
eastward along Queens Quay West;
northward along Bay Street;
eastward along Adelaide Street West; and then
southward along Yonge Street to King Street West;
ending their trips.

Eastbound buses skip regular streetcar stops

  • in Queens Quay station and
  • in Union Station loop.

Instead, eastbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at temporary stops

  • on Bay Street north of Queens Quay West, at Lake Shore Boulevard West, across from the Air Canada Centre, at Front, Wellington and King Streets West and
  • on Yonge Street at King Street West.

Westbound buses start their trips on Yonge Street at King Street West, then proceed:

southward along Yonge;
westward along Wellington Street West;
southward along Bay Street;
westward along Queens Quay West; and then
northward along Bathurst Street to Fleet Street,
resuming their regular route westward along Fleet.

  • in Union Station loop and
  • in Queens Quay station.

Instead, westbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at temporary stops

  • on Yonge Street at King and Wellington Streets West and
  • on Bay Street at Front Street West and south of Harbour Street.
