New Year's Eve events
affect transit services



In recent posts, we’ve detailed how local and regional transit agencies are making various changes to their services today, New Year’s Eve, Thursday, December 31.

The changes include:

Public events in Barrie, Brampton and Mississauga also affect services as municipalities block streets to accommodate their residents as they celebrate the end of 2014 and the start of 2015. Transit agencies in each community are detouring regular transit services, while the streets are closed.

Barrie


Downtown Countdown

The City of Barrie is closing

  • Collier Street between Berczy and Owen Streets and
  • Mulcaster Street between Worsley Street and Dunlop Street East

all day Wednesday and Thursday and early Thursday morning to accommodate the event.

Barrie Transit is detouring buses while the streets are closed.

5A Blake via Edgehill

All day Wednesday, December 30 and Thursday, December 31 until 2 a.m. Friday, January 1, 2016, buses operate along their regular route to Downtown Barrie Terminal, then detour:

southward along Maple Avenue;
eastward along Simcoe Street;
northward along Bayfield Street; and then
eastward along Chase McEachern Way, Fred Grant Street and Dunlop Street East to Collier Street,
resuming their regular route eastward along Dunlop East.

5B Edgehill via Blake
Essa via Blake

All day Wednesday, December 30 and Thursday, December 31 until 2 a.m. Friday, January 1, 2016, buses operate along their regular route to Dunlop Street East and Collier Street, then detour:

westward along Dunlop East;
southward along Mulcaster Street; and then
westward along Lakeshore Drive and Simcoe Street to Downtown Barrie Terminal,
resuming their regular route.

3A Georgian Dr via Cook

All day Wednesday, December 30 and Thursday, December 31 until 2 a.m. Friday, January 1, 2016, buses operate along their regular route to Maple Avenue and Ross Street, then detour:

northward along Maple; and then
eastward along Sophia Streets West and East and McDonald Street to Mulcaster Street,
resuming their regular route northward along Mulcaster.

8A RVH via Essa

All day Wednesday, December 30 and Thursday, December 31 until 2 a.m. Friday, January 1, 2016, buses operate along their regular route to Downtown Barrie Terminal, then detour:

southward along Maple Avenue;
eastward along Simcoe Street;
northward along Bayfield Street; and then
eastward along Chase McEachern Way, Fred Grant Street and Dunlop Street East to Collier Street,
resuming their regular route eastward along Dunlop East.

Brampton


Brampton New Year’s Eve

The City of Brampton is closing:

  • Main Streets North and South between Nelson Street West / Theatre Lane and Wellington Street and
  • Queen Streets West and East between George Street and Theatre Lane / Chapel Street

Wednesday afternoon and evening and early Thursday morning to accommodate the event.

Brampton Transit and GO Transit are detouring buses while the roadways are closed.

25 Edenbrook

From 5 p.m. Thursday, December 31 until 1 a.m. Friday, January 1, 2016, southbound buses operate along their regular route to George Street North across from Diplock Lane, ending their trips.

Northbound buses start their trips on George Street North across from Diplock Lane, then proceed:

southward along George North; and then
westward along Queen Street West;
northward along Mill Street North; and then
eastward along Nelson Street West to George Street North,
resuming their regular route eastward along Nelson West.

Northbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Main Street South at John Street and
  • on Main Street North north of Queen Street East.

Instead, northbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at a temporary stop

  • on George Street North across from Diplock Lane.

2 Main

From 5 p.m. Thursday, December 31 until 1 a.m. Friday, January 1, 2016, southbound buses operate along their regular route to Main Street North and Nelson Street West, then detour:

westward along Nelson West;
southward along McMurchy Streets North and South; and then
eastward along Harold Street to Main South,
resuming their regular route southward along Main.

Southbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Main Street North at Queen Street West,
  • on Main Street South at Wellington Street West and across from Woodbrook Drive and Clarence Street.

Instead, southbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at temporary stops

  • on McMurchy Street North at Queen Street East and
  • on McMurchy Street South at Royce Avenue, McHardy Court and Corby Crescent.

Northbound buses reverse the detour routing.

  • on Main Street South north of Guest Street and Woodbrook Drive and at Wellington Street East and John Street and
  • on Main Street North north of Queen Street East.

56 Springbrook

From 5 p.m. Thursday, December 31 until 1 a.m. Friday, January 1, 2016, eastbound buses operate along their regular route to Queen Street West and George Street North, then detour:

northward along George North to just north of Diplock Lane,
ending their trips.

  • on Main Street South at John Street and
  • on Main Street North north of Queen Street East.

Instead, eastbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at a temporary stop

  • on George Street North across from Diplock Lane.

Westbound buses start their trips on George Street North across from Diplock Lane, then proceed along their regular route.

After 2 p.m. New Year’s Eve, Wednesday, December 31, southbound buses operate along their regular route to George Street North across from Diplock Lane, ending their trips.

Northbound buses start their trips on George Street North across from Diplock Lane, then proceed:

southward along George North; and then
westward along Queen Street West;
northward along Mill Street North; and then
eastward along Nelson Street West to George Street North,
resuming their regular route eastward along Nelson West.

  • on Main Street South south of Wellington Street West and across from Woodbrook Drive.

Westbound buses operate along their regular route to Main Street South and Frederick Street, then detour:

westward along Frederick;
northward along McMurchy Avenues South and North;
eastward along Nelson Street West; and then
northward along George Street North,
resuming their regular route east- and southward through the Downtown Brampton Terminal.

The City of Mississauga is closing

  • City Centre Drive east of Duke of York Boulevard,

  • Princess Royal Drive between Living Arts Drive and Duke of York Boulevard

from 7 p.m. Thursday, December 31 until 1 a.m. Friday, January 1, 2016.

It’s also closing

  • Burnhamthorpe Road West between Confederation Parkway and Duke of York Boulevard and
  • Living Arts Drive between Princess Royal Drive and Burnhamthorpe Road West

from 11:30 p.m. Thursday, December 31 until 12:30 a.m. Friday, January 1, 2016 to accommodate the event.

MiWay and GO Transit are detouring buses while the roadways are closed.

eastward along Rathburn Road West; and then
south- and westward along City Centre Drive to Kariya Gate,
resuming their regular route southward along Kariya.

Southbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Duke of York Boulevard at Square One and Princess Royal Drives and
  • on City Centre Drive east of Duke of York Boulevard and at Kariya Gate.

Instead, southbound buses drop off and pick up passengers at temporary stops
