Eglinton Crosstown LRT -- Duplex Avenue
Headwall construction continues

eglinton crosstown logo.pngMetrolinx contractors for the Eglinton Crosstown light rail transit line continue building the headwalls west of Yonge Street.

Headwalls are underground support walls at the ends of each station site. The headwalls must be in place before tunnel-boring machines arrive at each station location.

Crews are building one headwall on Eglinton Avenue West east of Duplex Avenue at the shaft where, eventually, they’ll extract the tunneling machines. Building this headwall requires a nearby plant to pump “grout”, a form of concrete, to the headwall site. They’ve built the grout plant on a section of Duplex Avenue, south of Eglinton West.

During this phase, contractors work in the north lanes of Eglinton east of Duplex. The north-side construction zone extends along Eglinton Avenue West between east of Colin Avenue and just west of Yonge Street. During the work, the City of Toronto is prohibiting most vehicles, except for TTC buses, from turning left from westbound Eglinton onto southbound Duplex.

Traffic cones, concrete barriers and fencing separate the work zone from the right-of-way. Various traffic control measures and construction zones occupy the intersection of Eglinton West with Duplex Avenue and will change and shift over the coming months during headwall construction.

Expect traffic delays during construction.

For the safety of transit riders, the TTC is relocating east- and westbound bus stops in the area. Watch for posted signs and future information directing you to the new locations.

Pedestrian walkways will remain open; however detours may be in place. A chain-link fence will separate pedestrians from construction.

Most of the work occurs between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m., seven days a week. Some late-night or early-morning work may take place so that contractors can complete the work as quickly as possible. The contractor will not always work during the longer hours, but may do so if necessary.

Expect noise and vibration.
