Part 1: Less service to colleges, universities,
December 23 to January 3



Exams have ended and classes are over until the new year, so many area transit agencies — especially GO Transit — decrease services to colleges and universities for the holidays. Starting this week, fewer buses operate along many of the routes that serve passengers traveling to and from post-secondary institutions. Most service resumes after New Year’s Day.

Transit agencies are decreasing services to: Brock University, Centennial College’s Ellesmere and Progress Campuses, Conestoga College’s Cambridge and Doon Campuses, Durham College’s North Oshawa Campus, Fleming College’s Sutherland Campus, Humber College’s Lakeshore and North Campuses, McMaster University main Hamilton campus, Niagara College’s Glendale and Woodlawn Campuses, Redeemer University College, Sheridan College’s Trafalgar Campus, Trent University’s Symons Campus and the University of Guelph’s main Guelph campus, the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) North Oshawa Campus, the University of Toronto’s Mississauga and Scarborough Campuses, the University of Waterloo’s main Waterloo campus, Wilfrid Laurier University’s Waterloo Campus and York University’s Keele Campus.


Buses operating along these routes provide less service to colleges and universities during the holidays:

During the holidays, the SCTC interlines buses operating along this route with buses operating along the 4 Oakdale - Pen - Brock route.

Starting Wednesday, December 19, the SCTC interlines buses operating along the route with buses operating along the 16 Brock - Glenridge route.

Buses again operate along Burleigh Hill Road and St. David’s Road between the Pen Centre and Brock University.

Interlining ends and regular service resumes Monday, January 6, 2013.

23 West - Brock - Commuter

Tuesday, December 17 is the last day this year that the SCTC operates buses along the route.

Welland Transit

Friday, December 20 is the last day this year that Welland Transit operates buses with the regular schedule.

Instead, Mondays to Fridays except holidays from Monday, December 23 until Tuesday, December 31, it operates buses on fewer trips along the route.

Buses leave Niagara College’s Woodlawn Campus at 7:27 and 8:27a.m. and 12:27, 1:27, 4:15 and 5:15 p.m. They arrive in the Brock Tower Terminal on the Brock University Campus at 7:50 and 8:50 a.m. and 12:50, 1:50, 4:40 and 5:40 p.m.

Buses leave Brock at 8 and 9 a.m. and 1, 2, 4:50 and 5:50 p.m. They arrive in Welland at 8:35 and 9:25 a.m. and 1:25, 2:25, 5:15 and 6:15 p.m.

Regular service resumes Thursday, January 2, 2014.


Centennial College Ellesmere Campus

Since fewer passengers are traveling to and from the college, starting Monday, December 23, the TTC is operating fewer buses along the route Mondays to Fridays from about 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. It also cancels service along the 38A short-turn branch during the holidays.

Buses drop off and pick up passengers at each stop west of the University of Toronto’s Scarborough Campus every 11 minutes, instead of every 9½ minutes during morning rush hours. They serve stops west of U of T Scarborough every 10 minutes, instead of every 7½ minutes, from about 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. They serve stops west of U of T every 12 minutes, instead of every 6 minutes during afternoon rush hours.

By canceling the 38A branch, the TTC temporarily increases the frequency of service along the route east of U of T. Buses drop off and pick up passengers at stops east of the campus every 11 minutes, instead of every 19 minutes, during morning rush hours. They serve the stops every 10 minutes, instead of every 15 minutes, from about 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. They serve the stops every 11 minutes, instead of every 16 minutes during afternoon rush hours.

Holiday service ends and regular service resumes Monday, January 6, 2014.

Operating fewer TTC buses along this route also affects service for passengers traveling to and from the University of Toronto’s Scarborough Campus.

116 A / E Morningside express / local

Since fewer passengers are traveling to and from the college, starting Monday, December 23, the TTC is operating fewer buses along the local / express branch of the route Mondays to Fridays during rush hours.

Buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops along the route every 26 minutes, instead of every 16 minutes during morning rush hours.

Holiday service ends and regular service resumes Monday, January 6, 2014.

Operating fewer TTC buses along this route also affects service for passengers traveling to and from the University of Toronto’s Scarborough Campus.

Buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops south of Progress Avenue every 6 minutes, instead of every 5 minutes, during morning rush hours. They serve the stops every 6½ minutes, instead of every 5 minutes 15 seconds during afternoon rush hours.

Between Passmore and Progress Avenues, buses serve the stops every 12 minutes, instead of every 10 minutes, during morning rush hours. They serve the stops every 13 minutes, instead of every 10½ minutes during afternoon rush hours.

North of Passmore Avenue, buses serve the stops every 24 minutes, instead of every 20 minutes during morning rush hours. They operate every 26 minutes, instead of every 21 minutes during afternoon rush hours.

West of Centennial College, buses drop off and pick up passengers at each stop along the route every 9 minutes, instead of every 6½ minutes.

Arthurs Common on York University’s Keele Campus at 8:15 and 9:15 a.m. and 3:15 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. (The buses usually arrive on the Durham College / UOIT campus at 9:14 and 10:10 a.m. and 4:25 p.m. and in the Downtown Oshawa Terminal at 9:30 and 10:15 a.m. and 4:40 p.m.)

It’s also the last day this year that it operates the westbound bus that usually leaves downtown Oshawa at 1:35 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. (The bus arrives on the Durham / UOIT campus at 1:48 p.m. and on the York campus at 2:10 p.m.)

Regular service resumes Monday, January 6, 2014.

By operating fewer buses along this route during the holidays, GO also decreases service for passengers traveling to and from the University of Ontario Institute of Techonology (UOIT) North Oshawa Campus and York University’s Keele Campus.

Friday, December 6 was the last day this year that GO operated the two eastbound buses that served this branch of the route. (The buses usually left Unionville GO Station bus terminal at 7:10 and 10:10 a.m. Mondays to Fridays and ended its trip on the Durham College / UOIT campus at 7:45 and 10:45 a.m.)

Friday, December 20 is the last day this year that the TTC operates buses along the 191A short-turn branch between Humber College’s North Campus and Kipling Station. The southbound buses that usually start their trips at Humber College at 9:26, 9:46, 10:06 and 10:26 a.m. don’t operate during the holidays. The northbound buses that usually leave Kipling Station at 8:50, 9:10, 9:30, 9:50, 10:10 and 10:30 a.m., ending their trips at Humber, don’t operate during the holidays.

(The buses ended their trips in Aldershot GO Station bus terminal at 1:44, 2:47, 2:55, 3:44, 4:16, 5:11 and 5:40 p.m.)

Sunday, December 15 was the last day this year that GO operated any buses along this branch of the route Sundays and holidays.

Friday, December 20 is the last day this year that GO operates the eastbound buses that usually leave McMaster University GO Bus Terminal at 10:06 and 11:06 a.m. and 12:06, 1:06, 2:06, 3:06, 7:06, 8:06, 9:06 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. The buses end their trips in Aldershote GO Station bus terminal at 10:19 and 11:19 a.m. and 12:19, 1:19, 2:19, 3:19, 7:19, 8:19 and 9:19 p.m.

It’s also the last day this year that GO operates the westbound buses that leave Aldershot at 10:28 and 11:28 a.m. and 12:28, 1:28, 2:28, 3:28, 9:28 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. The buses end their trips in “Mac” terminal at 10:38 and 11:38 a.m. and 12:38, 1:28, 2:38, 3:38 and 9:38 p.m.

Regular Sunday-and-holiday services resumes Sunday, January 5, 2014. Regular Monday-to-Friday service resumes Monday, *January 6, 2014. Regular Friday-only service resumes Friday, January 10, 2014.

All other buses operating along the main branch of the route continue to provide frequent express service for passengers traveling between Mac and Aldershot Mondays to Fridays, except holidays.
