More Davis Drive rapidway construction,
starting October 28

Metrolinx and York Region contractors continue the project to build a rapidway — bus-only lanes in the centre of the roadway — along Davis Drive in Newmarket.

Starting this week, they’ll be working on four more parts of the project.

First, for one day, probably Tuesday, October 29 from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m., they’ll be widening the roadway at the entrance to 20-54 Davis Drive plaza — the “Goodwill” plaza at the southeast corner of Yonge Street and Davis Drive.

The contractors are already widening the south side of Davis from west of Yonge to Parkside Drive. Last week, crews paved a portion of the new road from east of Wilstead Drive to east of Parkside Drive. The last piece of widening Davis Drive in this segment is across the plaza’s Davis entrance.

For that one day, crews will temporarily close the plaza’s entrance. Businesses will be open and continue to be accessible from the plaza’s Wilstead Drive back alley entrance and Yonge Street. Directional signs will guide motorists to the open entrances.

Second, starting Monday, October 28, from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. each day, the contractors will work at the intersection of Davis with Vincent Street to install the underground duct bank that gathers together and encases telecommunication wires.

During this work, the crews will narrow Vincent Street just north of Davis to one lane. Traffic control personnel will be onsite to direct traffic flow. York Region Transit will move the bus stop on the northeast corner of Davis and Vincent further west along Davis. Please follow directional signs to the nearest available bus stop.

The part of the project continues until November 1.

Third, from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday, October 28, the contractors will work at the intersection of Davis with Hill Street in two phases to install storm sewers.

During this work, the crews will narrow Hill Street just north of Davis to one lane. Traffic control personnel will be onsite to direct traffic flow. York Region Transit will move the bus stop on the northwest corner of Davis and Vincent to the northeast corner. Please follow directional signs to the nearest available bus stop.

Fourth, starting Monday, October 28, from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. each day, Enbridge Gas contractors are working at the intersection of Davis with Charles Street to install gas mains.

Crews will be digging and drilling on the south side of Davis at Charles to install the new gas pipes. Businesses are open. Entrances to the businesses on or near Charles will remain accessible. If bus stops are affected, directional signs will guide passengers to the nearest available bus stop.

This part of the project continues until November 8.
