Highway 7 East rapidway construction,
October 18 to 25



Metrolinx and York Region contractors continue to work on the project to build a rapidway — bus-only lanes in the centre of the roadway.

Here’s what’s going on this week:

  • between Warden Avenue and Highway 404 — Starting Monday, October 21 from 9:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. each day: Contractors are closing multiple lanes. Expect heavier traffic than usual. Work continues until October 25.
  • Cedarland Drive — Contractors are closing the street to traffic until the end of 2013.
  • Michael Angelo’s Driveway — Contractors are closing the first driveway east of Woodbine Avenue until October 25.
  • Woodbine Avenue — Contractors are closing the southbound curb lane north of Highway 7. Work continues until November 15.
  • between Montgomery Court and Woodbine Avenue — Starting Monday, October 21: contractors are paving eastbound lanes . Traffic will be heavier than usual. Work continues until October 25.
  • Lunar Crescent — Starting 8 p.m. Tuesday, October 22 until 5 a.m. Friday, October 25: contractors are blocking the left-turn and through lanes during paving. You can still turn right onto or form Highway 7.

  • Woodbine Avenue — Starting Monday, October 21 from 9:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. each day: contractors are closing left-turn lanes north and south of Highway 7. Work continues until October 25.
  • Shell driveway onto Highway 7 at Woodbine Avenue — Contractors are closing half of the driveway until October 22. (The entrance is open, but you must exit onto Woodbine Avenue.)
  • Cochrane Drive — From 10 p.m. Tuesday, October 22 until 5 a.m. Wednesday, October 23: contractors will shift traffic lanes south of Highway 7, reducing two left-turn lanes to just one. (This will be a permanent change.) The single through / right-turn lane remains. Expect noise.

  • Frontenac Drive — From 8 p.m. Thursday, October 17 until 5 a.m. Monday, October 21: Contractors are paving at the intersection on Highway 7, blocking access to or from Highway 7. Expect noise. The TTC is detouring buses operating along the 224D Victoria Park North route.

  • Allstate Parkway — Contractors are closing the southbound right-turn lane north to allow pedestrian access. Police officers will be on-site and left-turns will be at their discretion. Work continues until December 7.
  • at Highway 404 — from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. today and from 7 p.m. tonight until 7 a.m. tomorrow and continuing overnight nightly: Contractors are closing multiple lanes. Work continues until November 1.
  • between Highway 404 and East Beaver Creek Road — Starting Monday, October 21, from 9:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. each day: contractors are closing eastbound lanes. Work continues until October 25.

TTC passengers riding buses operating along the 24 Victoria Park, 68 Warden and 224 Victoria Park North routes and York Region Transit passengers riding buses operating along the Viva pink, Viva purple and 1 Highway 7 routes should expect delays.
