More Davis Drive rapidway construction
starts August 15

Metrolinx and York Region contractors continue the project to build a rapidway — bus-only lanes in the centre of the roadway — along Davis Drive in Newmarket.

Last year, contractors finished work on the north side of the Eastern Creek culvert — a tunnel or pipe that allows water to move easily from one side of an obstruction to the other. Before they can widen Davis Drive in this area, crews must now replace and widen the south side of the culvert in the parking lot of Southlake Regional Health Centre.

Starting today, Thursday, August 15, from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. each day, crews will:

  • dig out and replace the culvert; and then
  • backfill and restore the area.

Due to the nature of this work, expect noise and vibration. Work may also continue during weekends.

All access roads to Southlake Regional Health Centre and to all businesses on Davis Drive remain open.

The work will close the south sidewalk on Davis Drive around the work area. Cross to the north sidewalk safely at Roxborough Road / Patterson Street or Prospect Street / Lundy’s Lane, where signals control traffic.

Work on the project continues to restrict traffic to just two lanes — one westbound and one eastbound — between Roxborough Road / Patterson Street and Yonge Street.

GO Transit passengers riding express buses operating along the 65 Newmarket / Toronto route and York Region Transit passengers riding buses operating along the 50 Queensway, 54 Bayview, 55 / 55B Davis Drive, 58 Mount Albert and 520 / 521 Newmarket community bus routes should expect delays.

Construction continues until December.
