More Davis Drive rapidway construction
starts August 14

Metrolinx and York Region contractors continue the project to build a rapidway — bus-only lanes in the centre of the roadway — along Davis Drive in Newmarket.

Crews have been relocating gas mains working along Davis Drive. Starting tomorrow, Wednesday, August 14, they’ll start working on the south side, between Lorne Avenue and Main Street. Overall, they’ve relocated about half of the gas mains along along the Davis Drive corridor.

During this phase of the project, contractors will maintain access to all business.

From 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. each day, crews will be:

  • digging trenches and drilling;
  • laying and installing new gas pipes;
  • connecting gas services to the new gas main; and
  • filling trenches and restoring the road and boulevard.

Work continues until mid-September.

GO Transit passengers riding express buses operating along the 65 Newmarket / Toronto route and York Region Transit passengers riding local buses operating along the 44 Bristol, 50 Queensway, 55 / 55B Davis Drive and 58 Mount Albert routes should expect detours or delays.
