Major changes to GO bus service
in Durham Region, starting June 29

Since Durham Region Transit is starting its new bus rapid transit service, DRT Pulse, Saturday, June 29, GO Transit is making major changes to its bus service in Oshawa, Whitby, Ajax and Pickering the same day.

First, it’s canceling the current service along the 94 Oshawa / Yorkdale and 95 Oshawa / Finch routes.

Second, it’s introducing two new routes: the 92 Oshawa / Yorkdale route and the 98 Pickering / Finch express route.

Third, it’s increasing service along the 96 Oshawa / Finch express route, so that buses operate about every 30 minutes from about 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. seven days a week.

Fourth, it’s reorganizing bus stops in Pickering, affecting service along the 51 Pickering / York U route.

Fifth, it’s removing GO bus stops in Durham Region.

Sixth, it’s revising its fare policy for passengers traveling within Durham Region.

Canceling routes

94 Oshawa / Yorkdale

Friday, June 28 is the last day that GO operates buses along this route.

Starting Saturday, June 29, DRT buses operating along the new 900 DRT Pulse route replace service along the Highway 2 Corridor, dropping off or picking up passengers at most — but not all — of the bus stops the GO buses operating along this route currently serve.

GO’s also introducing new limited-stop 92 Oshawa / Yorkdale route to partially replace service along this route. Buses operating along the new route link the downtown Oshawa Bus Terminal with Scarborough Centre, York Mills and Yorkdale GO Bus Terminals. They do not operate between Oshawa GO Station and downtown Oshawa.

It’s also increasing service along the 96 Oshawa / Finch route to provide more options for passengers traveling between Oshawa and Toronto.

GO buses no longer drop off or pick up passengers at stops on Bloor Street West, Simcoe and Centre Streets South, John Street West, Park Roads North and South, Harwood Avenue South, Hunt Street, Mills Street, Station Street, Fairall Street and Westney Road South or in the the Ajax Plaza terminal.

95 Oshawa / Finch

Friday, June 28 is the last day that GO operates buses along this route.

Starting Saturday, June 29, GO buses operating along the new 92 Oshawa / Yorkdale route replace most of the service along this route, except for stops along Yonge Street between Highway 401 and Finch GO Bus Station.

GO is also increasing service along the 96 Oshawa / Finch express route and introducing the new 98 Pickering / Finch express route to partially replace this service.

GO buses operating along the new 92 Oshawa / Yorkdale route drop off or pick up passengers at all stops that buses operating along this route currently serve along the Highway 2 corridor. GO is also introducing new stops:

  • Park Road (Oshawa)
  • Salem Road (Ajax)
  • Walnut Lane (Pickering)
  • White’s Road (Pickering)
  • Rougemount Drive (Pickering)
  • Port Union Road / Sheppard Avenue East (Toronto).

Introducing new routes

92 Oshawa / Yorkdale

Buses operating along the new 92 Oshawa / Yorkdale route serve stops in both directions along the Highway 2 corridor between the downtown Oshawa Bus Terminal and Yorkdale GO Bus Terminal. It’s a “limited-stop”, service, meaning the buses only drop off or pick up passengers at much fewer stops than buses used to serve along the 94 Oshawa / Yorkdale route. They serve just 18 stops in Durham Region then operate express through Toronto, stopping only at Scarborough Centre and York Mills GO Bus Terminals.

DRT Pulse buses serve many of the stops along Highway 2 that buses operating along the 94 Oshawa / Yorkdale route do, except for certain stops in downtown Oshawa and Ajax.

Westbound GO buses no longer stop on Centre Street, John Street or Park Road. They no longer operate to and from Oshawa GO Station, meaning that GO is abandoning its stops along Centre and Simcoe Streets South and Bloor Street West.

Buses in both directions remain on Kingston Road through Ajax, instead of diverting along Harwood Avenue South, Hunt Street, Mills Street, Station Street, Fairall Street and Westney Road South to serve Ajax Plaza and Ajax GO Station.

The buses serve the same stops as GO buses operating along the 95 Oshawa / Finch limited-stop service do, plus six new stops:

Removing GO bus stops in Durham Region

Details to follow.

Revising the fare policy for passengers traveling within Durham Region

When DRT intoduces DRT Pulse, Durham Region residents will have a new way to travel through their region.

GO Transit will be reallocating some of its buses to increase its service throughout the Greater Golden Horseshoe area. DRT will no longer subsidize some GO trips with its “One Fare” program.

Starting Saturday, June 29, GO bus drivers will not accept DRT tickets or passes and U-Passes if you’re traveling within Durham Region west of downtown Oshawa on GO buses operating along the 51 Pickering / York U, 52 Oshawa / York U, 92 Oshawa / Yorkdale, 96 Oshawa / Finch express and 98 Pickering / Finch express routes. You’ll have pay regular GO fares.

The same policy applies starting Tuesday, September 3, when GO resumes service along the 93 Durham College / UOIT / Scarborough route.

(GO is encouraging passengers to buy and use PRESTO cards if you’re planning on transferring between DRT buses and GO buses and trains.)
