Paving on Highway 7 continues,
YRT detours buses, June 7 to 10

Metrolinx and York Region contractors continue to work on the project to build a rapidway — bus-only rapid transit lanes in the centre of the roadway — along Highway 7 East in Markham and Richmond Hill.

Paving work continues this weekend, at the intersection of Highway 7 and East Beaver Creek Road / Commerce Valley Drive East, continuously from today, Friday, June 7 at 7 p.m. and continuing until Monday, June 10 at 6 a.m.

Expect significant delays to traffic and buses, since the work blocks some road lanes on Highway 7 and prevents through north-south traffic from entering the intersection. The traffic lights will not operate during this work. One lane in each direction will be open on Highway 7 for traffic.

York Regional Police officers will be on site at the intersection to direct turning traffic.

Detour signs will guide motorists and pedestrians toward alternative route to businesses on Highway 7 and on side streets.

The work takes place in two segments.

First, crews will pave the centre lanes.

During this phase, the intersection is closed to north- and southbound through traffic, but drivers may turn right.

Second, crews pave the north and south sides.

During this phase, east-west traffic along Highway 7 operates on the centre lanes and drivers cannot turn onto side streets. The intersection is fully closed on the north and south sides to north- and southbound traffic.

York Region Transit is detouring buses operating along the 85B Rutherford / 16th Avenue and 90B Leslie routes, while the intersection is closed to north-south traffic.

Construction may also delay buses operating along the Viva pink, Viva purple and 1 Highway 7 routes.
