TTC detours streetcars off King during overnight rewiring,
May 6 to 10



The TTC is continuing its project to upgrade the overhead wiring along streetcar rights of way this week. (In part, the work prepares for the TTC’s new Bombardier Flexity streetcars entering regular service next year.)

Overnight nightly starting late Mondays to Thursdays and continuing until early Tuesdays to Fridays throughout April and May, the TTC has been rewiring along King Street West. Overnight rewiring starts at 10 p.m. each evening and continues until 5 a.m. the following day.

The TTC is detouring streetcars operating along the 504 King route during the work. Shuttle buses replace the cars.

Crews have been working in two phases. From late Monday, April 8 until early Friday, April 12 and continuing from late Monday, April 15 until early Friday, April 19, they replaced the wiring along King Street West between The Queensway / Queen Street West / Roncesvalles Avenue and Shaw Street.

The second phase started last Monday and affected King West between Shaw Street and Spadina Avenue from late Monday, April 29 until early Friday, May 3. This phase continues later Monday-to-Thursday evenings and early Tuesday-to-Friday mornings this week from late today Monday, May 10 until early Friday, May 10.

From 10 p.m. Monday, May 6 until 5 a.m. Tuesday, May 7 and continuing overnight nightly until 5 a.m. Friday, May 10, eastbound cars operate along their regular route to King Street West and Shaw Street, then detour:

northward along Shaw;
eastward along Queen Street West; and then
southward along Spadina Avenue to King Street West,
resuming their regular route eastward along King West.

Eastbound cars skip their regular stops

  • on King Street West at Strachan Avenue, Niagara, Tecumseth, Bathurst and Portland Streets, across from Brant Street and at Spadina Avenue.

Instead, cars drop off or pick up passengers at temporary stops

  • on Shaw Street north of King Street West and at Adelaide and Queen Streets West,
  • on Queen Street West at Strachan Avenue, Niagara, Tecumseth and Bathurst Streets and Augusta and Spadina Avenues,
  • on Spadina Avenue south of Queen Street West.

Westbound cars reverse the eastbound detour.

Westbound cars skip their regular stops

  • on King Street West west of Brant Street, at Portland, Bathurst, Tecumseth and Niagara Streets, Strachan Avenue and Shaw Street.

Instead, westbound cars drop off or pick up passengers at temporary stops

  • on Spadina Avenue north of King Street West and at Richmond Street West,
  • on Queen Street West at Augusta Avenue, Bathurst Street, Palmerston Avenue, Claremont Street, across from Strachan Avenue and at Shaw Street and
  • on Shaw Street at Adelaide and King Streets West.

From 10 p.m. Monday, May 6 until 5 a.m. Tuesday, May 7 and continuing overnight nightly until 5 a.m. Friday, May 10, eastbound buses start their trips at King Street West and Dufferin Street, then proceed:

eastward along King Street West to University Avenue,
ending their trips.

Eastbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops

  • on King Street West at Dufferin Street, Fraser and Atlantic Avenues, across from Sudbury Street, at Shaw Street, Strachan Avenue, Niagara, Tecumseth, Bathurst and Portland Streets, across from Brant Street, at Spadina Avenue, Blue Jays Way, John and Simcoe Streets and University Avenue.

Westbound buses reverse the eastbound route.

Westbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops

  • on King Street West at University Avenue, Simcoe, John and Peter Streets, Spadina Avenue, west of Brant Street, at Portland, Bathurst, Tecumseth and Niagara Streets, Strachan Avenue, Shaw and Sudbury Streets, across from Jefferson Avenue, at Joe Schuster Way and at Dufferin Street.
