Subway construction on Steeles Avenue West
continues until June 15

TTC and City of Toronto contractors continue working on the project to extend the 1 Yonge - University - Spadina subway beyond Downsview Station northwest to Vaughan.

The work currently restricts eastbound traffic along Steeles Avenue West to just one lane between Murray Ross Parkway and Northwest Gate as crews install a traffic bridge. The contractors expect to continue this eastbound lane restriction until June 15. Two westbound lanes remain open and one eastbound lane remains open at all times near the site of the future Black Creek Pioneer Village Station. Due to the nature of the work, motorists and transit passengers may face traffic delays.

“Paid-duty” police officers are directing traffic through the lane restrictions on Steeles Avenue West**.

A new sidewalk is open on the north side of Steeles West from west of Founders Road to east of Murray Ross Parkway. Work on the project blocks the sidewalk on the south side of Steeles West at Northwest Gate. Use the sidewalk on the north side of Steeles Avenue West to walk through the construction area.

The City of Toronto has reduced the speed limit on Steeles West between Jane and Keele Streets to just 50 kilometres per hour. Toronto Police Service officers will be strictly enforcing speed limits through the project work area.

Passengers riding Brampton Transit buses operating along the 501 Züm Queen route, TTC buses operating along the 35E Jane express and 60 Steeles West routes and York Region Transit buses operating along the 10 York U - Woodbridge and 20 Jane - Concord routes should expect delays.
