YRT revises routes and services, April 21



*Update — Thursday, April 25, 6:17 p.m.: YRT is canceling its changes to the 51 Keswick local route, starting Monday, April 22.


York Region Transit is revising its services throughout its service area, but especially in northern York Region in Newmarket, East Gwillimbury and Georgina, starting tomorrow, Sunday, April 21.


YRT is revising service along these routes: Viva blue; Viva green; Viva purple; 1 Highway 7, 2A 14th Avenue; 7 Martin Grove; 9 Ninth Line; 10 York U - Woodbridge; 18 Bur Oak; 20 Jane - Concord; 22 / 22A King City; 32 Aurora South; 50 Queensway; 51 Keswick local; 52 Holland Landing; 58 / 58A Leslie / Leslie via Mt Albert; 58 Mt Albert; 84 Oak Ridges; 85 Rutherford / 16th Avenue; 98 Yonge; 99 Yonge; 98/99 Yonge late-night; 300 Business express; 301 Markham express; 304 Mount Joy express; 426 Dr. G. W. Williams high school special; 520 Markham community bus; 760 Vaughan Mills / Wonderland.


Specifically, YRT is introducing a new route, cancelling a current route; increasing service along current routes; decreasing service along current routes; increasing the frequency of service along current routes; decreasing the frequency of service along current routes; [revising the path] for a current route; resuming service along a seasonal route; revising service for high schools; and adjusting the schedule of current routes.


Introducing a new route


58 Mt Albert

Starting Monday, April 22, YRT operates buses along this new route, replacing most service along the former 58 / 58A Leslie route.

Most southbound buses start their trips on King Street Mount Albert, west of Centre Street, then proceed:

west- and southward along King;
westward along Mount Albert Road;
southward along Leslie Street; and then
eastward into 404 Town Centre terminal,
ending their trips.

Mondays to Fridays from about 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., southbound buses continue beyond the 404 Town Centre Terminal by proceeding:

east- and southward through the 404 Town Centre;
westward along Davis Drive and Davis Drive West;
southward along Eagle Street West; and then
westward into Newmarket GO Bus Terminal,
ending their trips.

Most northbound buses start their trips in the 404 Town Centre terminal, then proceed:

east- and southward through the 404 Town Centre;
westward along Davis Drive;
northward along Leslie Street;
eastward along Mount Albert Road;
northward along Royal Oak Road;
westward along Elizabeth Street Mount Albert;
northward along Centre Street; and then
westward along King Street to just west of Centre Street,
ending their trips.

Mondays to Fridays from about 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., northbound buses start their trips in Newmarket GO Bus Terminal, then proceed:

eastward along Davis Drive West and Davis Drive;
northward along Leslie Street; and then
eastward into 404 Town Centre Terminal.

The buses then resume their regular northbound route.

The first three southbound buses Monday-to-Friday mornings divert to Gwillimbury GO Station so passengers can transfer to southbound GO Transit trains. They operate along their regular route Leslie Street and Green Lane, then proceed:

eastward along Green;
northward into East Gwillimbury GO Station bus terminal,
looping through the terminal; and then
westward along Green to Leslie;
resuming their regular route southward along Leslie to the 404 Town Centre.

Buses connecting with GO trains at East Gwillimbury GO Station leave Mount Albert at 5:23, 6:27 and 7:27 a.m. They arrive in the station terminal at 5:45, 6:49 and 7:49 a.m.

The last two northbound buses Monday-to-Friday afternoons mornings divert to East Gwillimbury GO Station so passengers can transfer to southbound GO Transit trains. They operate along their regular route Leslie Street and Green Lane, then proceed:

eastward along Green;
northward into East Gwillimbury GO Station bus terminal,
looping through the terminal; and then
westward along Green to Leslie;
resuming their regular route northward along Leslie to Mount Albert.

Buses connecting with GO trains at East Gwillimbury GO Station leave 404 Town Centre terminal at 5:37 and 7:02 p.m. They arrive in the station terminal at 5:48 and 7:13 p.m.

YRT uses dial-a-ride service to provide two late Monday-to-Friday evening trips along the route. The southbound bus leaves King Street west of Centre Street at 11 p.m. (A conventional bus operating along the former 58 / 58A Leslie route previously provided this trip, leaving at 10:45 p.m.) The northbound bus leaves 404 Town Centre terminal at 10:30 p.m. (A conventional bus operating along the former 58 / 58A Leslie route previously provided this trip, leaving at 10:20 p.m.)

58 / 58A Leslie

Friday, April 19 was the last day that YRT operated buses along the route. It’s also the last day that it operates buses along residential streets in Sharon. Buses no longer drop off or pick up passengers at stops on Colonel Wayling Drive and Howard, Donlands and Farr Avenues.

Starting Monday, April 22, YRT operates buses along a new route, [58] Mt Albert, replacing most other service along the former 58 / 58A Leslie route.


Increasing service along a current route


50 Queensway

Starting Monday, April 22, GO operates buses on new late Monday-to-Friday evening trips along the route.

A southbound bus leaves High Street across from Burke Street in Sutton at 10:45 p.m. A northbound bus leaves Newmarket GO Bus Terminal at 9:30 p.m.

GO is also adjusting the schedule of the route. •Weekday, Saturday and Sunday/Holiday 10:15 p.m. trip from Newmarket GO Bus Terminal will now depart at 10:20 p.m.

Decreasing service along current routes


18 Bur Oak

Friday, April 19 is the last day that YRT operates the westbound bus that usually leaves Markham Stouffville Hospital at 8:45 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. It’s also the last day that it operates the eastbound buses that usually leave Angus Glen Community Centre at 8:15 and 9:15 p.m.

2A 14th Avenue

Since few passengers are riding the buses that serve the last Monday-to-Friday trips along the route, YRT is decreasing the service.

Friday, April 19 is the last day that YRT operates the westbound buses that leave Rougebank Drive east of Russell Jarvis Drive at 8:12 and 8:47 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. It’s also the last day that it operates the eastbound bus that leaves Denison Street east of Woodbine Avenue at 8:50 p.m.

52 Holland Landing

Friday, April 19 was the last day that YRT operated the southbound bus that leaves Yonge Street south of Queensville Sideroad at 5:56 a.m. Mondays to Fridays. It was also the last day that it operated the northbound bus that leaves Mount Albert Road east of Yonge Street at 5:56 a.m.

Saturday, April 20 is the last day that YRT operates any regular bus service along the route after 7 p.m.

Starting Monday, April 22, YRT replaces regular bus service with dial-a-ride service Mondays to Saturdays after 7 p.m. Passengers must call 1-800-899-1621 to ask for dial-a-ride service. Dial-a-ride service operates between 7:34 and 10:15 p.m. Mondays to Fridays, and between 7:34 and 11 p.m. Saturdays.

YRT will assign a stand-by dial-a-ride vehicle to the route for the first three months of dial-a-ride service to reduce overcrowding.

85 Rutherford / 16th Avenue

Friday, April 19 was the last day that YRT operated the westbound bus that usually leaves 16th Avenue east of Woodbine Avenue at 2:36 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. (The bus usually ended its trip in Vaughan Mills Terminal at 3:10 p.m.)

Increasing the frequency of service along current routes


51 Keswick local

Starting Monday, April 22, YRT increases the frequency of service along the route Monday-to-Friday midday. Buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops along the route every 49 minutes, instead of every 72 minutes Mondays to Fridays from about 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Starting Saturday, April 27, YRT increases the frequency of service along the route Saturdays. Buses serve stops every 45 minutes, instead of every 79 minutes.

YRT is also revising the path of the route Mondays to Saturdays and decreasing the frequency of service along the route Mondays to Fridays during rush hours.

Starting Saturday, April 27, YRT increases the frequency of service along the route Saturdays. Buses drop off or pick up passengers at vivastations south of Bernard Terminal every seven minutes, instead of every 15 minutes. They serve stops north of Bernard every 14 minutes, instead of every 15 minutes

10 York U - Woodbridge

Starting Monday, April 22, YRT increases the frequency of service along the route Mondays to Fridays during rush hours. Buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops along the route east of Woodbridge and Kipling Avenues every 44 minutes, instead of every 46 minutes, during morning rush hours. They serve stops every 50 minutes, instead of every 51 minutes, during afternoon rush hours.

YRT is also decreasing the frequency of service along the route and adjusting the schedule of the route.

Buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops along the route east of Woodbridge and Kipling Avenues every 46 minutes, instead of every 42 minutes, from about 9 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. They serve stops every 42 minutes, instead of every 38 minutes, from about 7 until 10 p.m.

Revising the path of current routes


32 Aurora South

Starting Monday, April 22, YRT adjusts the routing so that northbound buses end their trips on Bayview Avenue at Stone Road [south]. Southbound buses that usually start their trips on Stone Road at October Lane, start, instead, on Bayview Avenue at Stone Road.

Starting Monday, April 22, YRT revises the path for buses operating along the route.

Buses operate along their usual route to Hartwell Way and Bayview Avenue, then proceed:

resuming their regular route westward along Pederson.

Buses no longer operate along Bayview Avenue, St. Johns Sideroad East and Earl Stewart Drive.

51 Keswick local

Starting Monday, April 22, YRT revises the path of buses operating along the route to avoid duplicating service with buses operating along the 50 Queensway route.

Buses operating along the 51 Keswick local route drop off or pick up passengers at stops along Woodbine Avenue between Church Street and Ravenshoe Road. They no longer serve stops on Metro Road North, Ferncroft Drive, Highcastle Avenue, The Queensway South, Dovedale Drive, Lowndes Drive, Joe Dales Drive or Thornlodge Drive. Some buses continue to operate along Biscayne Drive Monday-to-Friday school days to serve passengers traveling to and from Keswick High School.

Southbound buses start their trips on Simcoe Avenue just east of Metro Road South, then proceed:

westward along Simcoe;
northward along Metro South
eastward along Church Street;
southward along Netanya Boulevard;
eastward along Wexford Drive;
southward along Woodbine Avenue;
west- and southward through Keswick Marketplace;
eastward along Glenwoods Avenue;
southward along Woodbine;
westward along Ravenshoe Road; and then
northward along Lake Drive South to a stop just north of Ravenshoe,
ending their trips.

Northbound buses start their trips on Lake Drive South north of Ravenshoe Road, then proceed:

northward along Lake South;
westward along Walter Drive;
southward along The Queensway South;
eastward along Ravenshoe;
northward along Woodbine Avenue;
west- and southward through Keswick Marketplace;
eastward along Glenwoods Avenue;
northward along Woodbine;
westward along Wexford Drive;
northward along Netanya Boulevard
westward along Church Street;
southward along The Queensway South; and then
westward along Simcoe Avenue to Metro Road South,
ending their trips.

The southbound buses that leave Simcoe Avenue east of Metro Road South at 8:40 a.m. and 3:29 p.m. Mondays to Fridays operate along the regular southbound route to Woodbine Avenue and Biscayne Boulevard, then proceed:

westward along Biscayne, passing Keswick High School;
southward along Hodgins Boulevard;
westward along Bessborough Drive;
northward along The Queensway South; and then
eastward along Biscayne to Woodbine,
resuming their regular route southward along Woodbine.

The northbound buses that leave Lake Drive South north of Ravenshoe Road at 8:08 a.m. and 3:52 p.m. Mondays to Fridays operate along the regular northbound route to Woodbine Avenue and Biscayne Boulevard, then proceed:

westward along Biscayne, passing Keswick High School;
southward along Hodgins Boulevard;
westward along Bessborough Drive;
northward along The Queensway South; and then
eastward along Biscayne to Woodbine,
resuming their regular route northward along Woodbine.

Monday-to-Saturday evenings, most buses operating along the route skip their stops on Netanya Boulevard and Wexford Drive to provide service to the GEM Theatre on the southwest corner of Church Street and Woodbine Avenue.

These buses operate southbound along their regular route to Church and Netanya, then proceed:

eastward along Church; and then
southward along Woodbine to Wexford,
resuming their regular route southward along Woodbine.

These buses operate northbound by reversing the southbound evening route.

All buses layover or pause at Keswick Marketplace for three to seven minutes.

YRT is also increasing and decreasing the frequency of service along the route at different times of the week.

760 Vaughan Mills / Wonderland

Starting Sunday, May 5, YRT resumes service along the route, linking Canada’s Wonderland with the Vaughan Mills, Richmond Hill Centre and Finch Terminals.

Buses operate every hour Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. The first southbound bus leaves Canada’s Wonderland at 10 a.m. The last bus leaves Wonderland at 10 p.m.

The first northbound bus leaves Finch GO Bus Terminal at 9 a.m. The last bus leaves Finch at 9 p.m.

Buses operate express along Jane Street and Highway 7 between Canada’s Wonderland and Richmond Hill Centre Terminal, stopping only at Vaughan Mills Terminal. Buses serve local stops along Yonge Street between Richmond Hill Centre and Finch.

Revising service for high schools


426 Dr. G. W. Williams high school special

Starting Monday, April 22, the southbound bus that usually leaves Hartwell Way east of Bayview Avenue at 7:45 a.m. Monday-to-Friday school days leaves, instead, one minute later at 7:46 a.m. It serves most stops along the route one minute later than usually, but still ends its trip on Dunning Avenue across from Dr. G. W. Williams high school at 8:03 a.m.

The southbound bus that usually leaves Hollidge Boulevard west of Bayview Avenue at 7:46 a.m. Monday-to-Friday school days leaves, instead, four minutes earlier at 7:42 a.m. It serves stops along the route from four minutes earlier to two minutes later than usually, ending its trip on Dunning Avenue across from Dr. G. W. Williams high school at 8:05 a.m.

Saturday, April 20 is the last day that YRT operates any regular bus service along the route after 7 p.m.

Starting Monday, April 22, YRT replaces regular bus service with dial-a-ride service Mondays to Saturdays after 7 p.m. Passengers must call 1-800-899-1621 to ask for dial-a-ride service. Starting Monday, April 22, YRT adjusts the schedule of the route Monday-to-Friday afternoons. The northbound buses that usually leave Newmarket GO Bus Terminal at 5:10 and 5:40 p.m. leave, instead, three minutes later at 5:13 and 5:43 p.m. The bus that usually leaves the terminal at 7:05 p.m. leaves, instead, four minutes later at 7:09 p.m.

The later trips improve service for passengers transferring onto the bus from GO Transit trains at Newmarket GO Station.

85 Rutherford / 16th Avenue

Starting Monday, April 22, the eastbound bus that usually leaves Vaughan Mills Teminal at 3:13 p.m. Mondays to Fridays leaves, instead, 16th Avenue west of Woodbine Avenue 44 minutes later at 3:57 p.m. The bus serves stops along the route east of Woodbine five to seven minutes later than usually and ends its trip beside Markham Stouffville Hospital at 4:21 p.m.

Starting Monday, April 22, the last Monday-to-Friday morning northbound bus leaves Don Mills Station at 9:48 a.m., instead of 9:38 a.m.

Viva purple

Friday, April 19 is the last day this year that YRT operates short-turn buses between Richmond Hill Centre Terminal and York University’s Keele Campus. This results in less frequent service between the two terminals. Buses drop off or pick up passengers at vivastations east of Richmond Hill Centre Terminal every 15 minutes, instead of every 7½ minutes, Mondays to Fridays before 7 p.m.

10 York U - Woodbridge

Starting Monday, April 22, the eastbound bus that usually leaves Forest Drive east of Martin Grove Road at 6:04 a.m. Mondays to Fridays leaves, instead, four minutes earlier at 6 a.m. The eastbound bus that usually leaves Woodbridge Avenue west of Kipling Avenue at 10:45 a.m. Mondays to Fridays leaves, instead, three minutes later at 10:48 a.m.

The westbound bus that usually leaves York University’s Keele Campus at 10:12 p.m. Mondays to Fridays leaves, instead, two minutes later at 10:14 p.m.

YRT is also increasing and decreasing the frequency of service along the route at various times of the week.
