Getting ready for Highway 7 West rapidway construction,
March 11 to 18

Metrolinx and York Region contractors continue to prepare for building a rapidway — bus-only lanes in the centre of the roadway — along Highway 7 West from west of Jane Street to east of Keele Street.

Starting Monday, March 11 from 9:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. each day, crews continue to locate underground utilities along the roadway, temporarily blocking lanes between Interchange Way / Edgeley Boulevard and Bowes Road. They’ll use standard potholing equipment to locate utilities, filling each hole before moving to the next location.

While working at each site, they’ll temporarily close the curb lanes, alternating between the east- and westbound lanes. This won’t affect sidewalks and crosswalks. Traffic control staff and “paid-duty” York Regional Police officers will be on site, if necessary, to direct traffic.

The work continues until March 15.

York Region Transit passengers riding buses operating along the 77 Highway 7 / Centre route should expect delays.
