New subway tunnel construction site at York University,
starting February 28

TTC and City of Toronto contractors continue working on the project to extend the 1 Yonge - University - Spadina subway northwest from Downsview Station to York University and Vaughan.

Starting today, Thursday, February 28 contractors are getting ready to open a new construction site for building the northern subway tunnels. The site area is on York University’s Keele Campus, southeast of Ottawa Road in the Vanier / Founders Green near the Founders Residence and east of the Lumbers parking lot. The TTC and City expect tunnel construction at this site to continue until about June.

At this site contractors are:

  • installing a chain-link fence around the construction site and a construction gate;
  • building new walkway south of the construction site;
  • moving large construction vehicles, including a drill rig, into and out of the site.

Crews will generally be working at the site Mondays to Fridays from about 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. You should expect some noise and vibration during drilling and excavation.
