Burlington Transit revises routes and services, January 6

This week, Burlington Transit made changes to most of its routes.

The big news in this round of service changes affects the 101 Express service between Burlington GO Station and downtown Hamilton. Burlington Transit buses now pick up or drop off passengers at stops along the route every 15 minutes, instead of every 30 minutes, Mondays to Fridays during rush hours. At the same time, it’s decreasing the frequency of service along the companion local route, 1 Plains.

Over in the north-east part of the city, Burlington Transit is canceling service along the 61 Orchard GO shuttle route. To help replace that service, though, it’s also increasing service in the peak direction along the 11 Sutton route Mondays to Fridays during rush hours.

Burlington Transit is revising service along these routes: 1 Plains; 2 Brant; 3 Guelph; 4 Central; 5 Francis; 6 Headon Forest; 10 New - Maple; 11 Sutton; 12 Upper Middle; 21 Fairview; 54D Burloak -North Service East dial-a-ride; 62 Orchard GO shuttle; 80 Harvester; 81 North Service; 101 Express.

Specifically, Burlington Transit is: canceling a route; increasing service along routes; decreasing service along routes; increasing the frequency of service along routes; decreasing the frequency of service along a route; revising a route; resuming extra service to and from high schools; adjusting the schedules of routes; and making other changes to service along routes.

Transit agencies often interline two or more routes sharing a common terminal to save resources — the number of drivers and vehicles they require to provide both services. For example, after an inbound Burlington Transit bus operating along the 2 Brant route arrives in Downtown Terminal, it leaves the terminal to operate outbound along the 3 Guelph route. Similarly, an inbound bus operating along the 3 Guelph route arrives in the terminal, then continues outbound along the 2 Brant route.
